Meanwhile...back at the Lesser Evil Ranch
With delegates, media, and protests focused tonight on the Republicans’ top Dick (Cheney, that is), let’s not forget the balls of the other side.
“President Clinton was often known as the first black president. I wouldn’t be upset if I could earn the right to be the second.”
--John F. Kerry
Ah yes...the glories of our two-party (sic) system.

America: The Land of Denial
“We absolutely need to invoke Sept. 11 in the convention. This election will determine how we fight a war on terror that began right here in this city.”
- Richard Aguilar, a delegate to the Republican National Convention.

Astoria's Algonquin?
This past Tuesday evening, Michele and I e-mailed an open invitation for our friends to meet us at Cafe Bar in Astoria. On short notice, Caroline, Tom, Panayiota, Georgia, Seth, and Josh took us up on the offer. The only thing they initially had in common was that they knew us...but the result was a night of stimulating conversation, community, and new friendships. The kind of human contact too often neglected in the cyber-era.
All we were missing was Dorothy Parker.
