11/11: Anti-War Veteran's Day, exposing torture, Mr. Vonnegut's b'day, & Chomsky vs. the Internet?

What do you really think of the Web?

But wait...before you answer, check this out:
Alison Weir of If Americans Knew (http://www.ifamericansknew.org) had an interesting article at Counterpunch the other day about how Jon Stewart spoke out against U.S. torture...but denied the existence of Israeli torture.

Those wishing Stewart to acknowledge his error, can contact Comedy Central:

While you’re at it, here’s some info on how to take action (re: U.S. torture) from Human Rights First: http://tinyurl.com/8j8y5

The above notices are fine examples of activism made instant...thanks to the Internet. However, while perusing Kurt Nimmo’s excellent blog (http://kurtnimmo.com) the other day, I came across a less than glowing appraisal of the Web by none other than Noam Chomsky: http://kurtnimmo.com/?p=99.

Prof. Noam says the Internet is “a hideous time-waster."

As a latecomer to the Web still figuring out where and how I fit in, I’ve evolved into something akin to a true believer. The Internet has had a huge impact (mostly positive) on my life and my writing. But, I must admit, I did seem have a lot more spare time before I got on-line.

What about you? Any thoughts on the ‘Net and Chomsky’s critique?

While you ponder these questions, I’ll ask some other big thinkers to weigh in:

Bob Dole: “The Internet is a great way to get on the ‘Net.”
Dubya: “Will the highways on the Internet become more few?”
Penn Jillete: “My favorite thing about the Internet is that you get to go into the private world of real creeps without having to smell them.”
William Gibson: “The Net is a waste of time & that’s exactly what’s right about it.”
Pablo Picasso: “Computers are useless. They can only give you answers.”

Matt Drudge:
“With a modem, anyone can follow the world and report on the world.”

It’s not every day I agree more with Drudge than Chomsky...

Happy Anti-War Veteran’s Day…

...and speaking of Anti-War Veterans:
Happy 83rd Birthday to Kurt Vonnegut…

Kurt sez:
There is no reason good can’t triumph over evil, if only angels will get organized along the lines of the mafia.
