9/11 and all that

A talk I gave on Sept. 11, 2008

The Other 9/11

Interview with Sander Hicks

In the nine years since the September 11, 2001 attacks, an extraordinary amount of time and effort has been put forth by activists of all stripes in the name of debunking the official story and offering a wide array of alternative theories. During those same nine years, I’ve received many e-mails - ranging from polite to accusatory - asking why I’m not on board the 9/11 truth movement. Over and over, I’m told that exposing the truth (which usually means a Cheney-led Republican conspiracy) will lead to major political upheaval and social change. “It’s the biggest issue out there,” I hear, ad nauseam.

Firstly, I certainly don’t buy any theory that focuses on just one political party. More importantly, I feel 99.9% certain that if Dick Cheney were to call a press conference tomorrow and confess that he planned the whole thing, it would not lead to any significant social change.

I sure don’t know exactly what happened on 9/11 and yeah, I’d like to find out. But is it the biggest issue out there? Not even close. Ultimately, in the face of a homicidal/suicidal dominant culture seemingly intent on mass extinction, a singular focus on 9/11 is nothing more than a distraction for activists.
