Jeffrey St. Clair says:

“A long time ago, in a galaxy far far away, the founding purpose of the Green party was to be a party of resistance. It was never about party building, or getting school board candidates elected, or anything but being a monkeywrench against a corrupt political system. Once the Greens decided to play nice, they ceased to exist as a force of opposition. Why be a Green when you can be a Dem? Why be a Dem when you can be a Republican? The only choice now is not to vote. Staying home on Election Day under these circumstances isn’t apathy or laziness or political mopery (as much as I admire all of those things) but an act of supreme resistance, particularly against those hysterical Dems who yelp that this is the most important election of our lifetime. Bunk.”

Woman is Still the Nigger of the World

My friend, Greg Elich, has written a powerful and important piece on the
treatment of women in U.S.-occupied and liberated (sic) Iraq:

“Women in Iraq are under siege. Hopes for a brighter future after the fall of Saddam Hussein have been rudely dashed and smothered by a climate of fear and repression. Far from the promised “liberation,” women in Iraq find themselves increasingly imprisoned by lawlessness and medieval attitudes, while recent events portend calamitous developments for women.”

This is The End

No, I’m not gonna post something about Jim Morrison. They call Montauk “The End” (as in “the end” of Long Island) and that’s where Michele and I are going for a few days...unless Hurricane Charley has other plans for us.

As a Montauk-related aside, someone posted my lastet article at the NYC Indy Media site and this has provoked a predictable flurry of anger. You might appreciate the Hamptons references. Seems I’ve become a rich man overnight.

I wish people would actually read my stuff (with even a modicum of attention and open-mindedness) before attacking me. Debate is often an excellent learning tool for all involved.

Oh well...see you in a few days.
