A long, strange trip indeed

Once upon a time...

Today is my parents’ 50th wedding anniversary. An amazing accomplishment (on many levels) for sure...but here’s the catch: My mom is in the hospital undergoing another tough round of treatment. My dad is home. He’s no longer able to handle the long drive to the hospital and remains strangely indifferent to almost everything except playing Lotto. The best I could do up here in New York was stop by the church in which they were married and light a candle...

If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a thousand times: There are no happy endings.
