  1. Hi all, I think that because I learnt a lot of words and how to use them through reading, I can come across better with words. There are some words I don’t know how to pronounce because I’ve never heard them said aloud. Casuist is one of them.

NPR received 1600 emails, 100 phone calls and 108 messages on their website after their shoddy obituary for the late great Howard Zinn. They’ve (almost) apologised!

  2. I fail to understand why anyone listens to NPR.

  3. I think the same thing about the BBC. In the run-up to the “2nd” gulf War their “journalism” was awful. When Bush Jr came to London for the 1st time there was a march/demo. The organisers said 400,000 people took part, the police said over 200,000. The BBC (in a half hour prog) said around 100,000...then 15 mins later, “tens of thousands”...then 15 mins later, “thousands”.
I heard that a poll in the U.S. voted the most trusted news outlet..as Fox.

  4. I have never been able to properly explain my horror of the telephone.
“An invention of the devil which abrogates some of the advantages of making a disagreeable person keep their distance” as Ambrose Bierce described it. To me it’s like talking to someone without a face.
Writing on the net is not treated like the immediate communication that it is, which I think is why it leads to such loud misunderstanding.

Captcha sez “land”. Horses! Horses! HORSES!

  7. The NPR reporter here is a real local celebrity. All the English mags and blogs go overboard to show respect where they usually wouldn’t. Like NPR are the bastion of true journalism and caring.

  8. #6 Thanks Michael for the podcast recommendation. The internet has definitely helped to give people access to new sources of news. There is always the difficulty that small media will have to rely on the AP and Reuters behemoths though.

Al Jazeera and Telesur are sharing news these days, that should shake the CNN Espanol viewing figures in Latin America.
