  1. Oh no, Mickey - to my shame, I must say I have never heard of that particular singer, although I have been living down under for more than 25 years.

To remind you:  I’ll arrive in NYC this coming Monday in the very early hours of the morning and shall stay until Saturday 24 July.  Back in the Big Apple on 26 July and bound for Australia on 29 July.

See you, or so I hope.

I also hope that your Dad is reasonably well.

    Have a good weekend!
    xo, Helga

    Captcha:  ‘father’ ...

  2. Hadn’t heard of him either.

    Will give it a listen.

    Irrelevant fact of the day....

If you had a big enough bath and you put Saturn in it, it would float. This is because the density of Saturn is less than that of water.

Utterly relevant quote of the day…

“The Earth is an insane asylum to which other planets deport their lunatics” - Voltaire

(Can you imagine the reaction when he said that in the mid 1700s ???)

  3. Helga and MZ: please take a few photos!

I just got back from Nevada and a side trip to Lake Tahoe. What an incredible place.

Yesterday’s News: MZ, I just learned about Gwynne Dyer’s new book. His 80’s series “War” was outstanding, but he’s been scarce for years. Nice to see him weighing in on this uber-disaster we’re brewing up.

  4. Hello Expendables...from steamy hot NYC.

Helga: E-mail me before you leave for New York, okay?

    Zen: I’m currently interviewing Dyer.

Michael: I’m off to bathe with Saturn.

  5. hello mickey and helga.

honestly, that voltaire one almost gives me me a hard-on. CAN YOU IMAGINE the reaction in 17whatever

it was a genuinely revolutionary comment by a genuine revolutionary.

by comparison we are all just pissing against the wind...despite the fact that the expendables are all talented people.

i say this only to emphasise that we all, me more than most, need to be pushing more.

  6. at that time there had been hundreds of years of religious war in europe with millions dead.

voltaire was saying neither one or the other of you is right...in fact, you are all nuts.

this point of view is still controversial- like i said, imagine the reaction then.

captcha is study.....well exactly..voltaire would approve

  7. Michael, 6...They were all nuts just as today, they are all nuts. Is it possible for most of the world’s people to digest wrong, inaccurate, manipulative communications...I say sure it is.

Since life wants to continue, why then would people poison the very things needed to sustain life? Because they too have been duped...even the manipulators, the priests, the generals, the politician, the teacher...Voltaire is correct...it’s all bullshit....and unnecessary.

  8. I bet that in every single war of the 17th Century, every “side” said “Support the Troops!”
    Captcha says “Human”...I’m defecting!

  9. I had also never heard of Xavier Rudd. But I have now, of course.

I’m reeling from a weekend where I found out that a student of mine, who is nine, has an abusive father.

He came in with literally lash marks across the tops of his arms and bruises on his wrists. He told me his dad had “whipped him” because he didn’t want to get up that morning (a Sunday).

Bonus point: China has no functioning child protection laws and the police don’t see hitting kids as a problem. This was a belt job.

  10. Andy, 9...I feel for both you and the child.

  12. I wanted to mention the name, Florence Owens Thompson. Recently I have had mental visions of this women who became known from a series of photos taken of her in 1936. By chance, yesterday I found an article that included her photo.

The photos have a powerful, moving message and are appropriate for the present time in america. I can’t do photos here but there are a number of pictures of Florence and her children that are easily searched that were taken during the great depression from 1776-2010.
