Night Vision
I just got to meet Expendable Helga. She’s in NYC on holiday and came to Astoria to see yours truly. Photos soon.
Posted by Mickey Z. from Astoria on 07/23 at 03:27 PMJealousy attack. I miss all of these. It isn’t fair.
In other news...I was on the bus half an hour ago after going to plant a tree in my Aunt’s garden (she is very unwell and unable to do it).
Apparently it is a Scottish tradition that everyone should plant a Rowan tree at some point in their life. I had never heard this before but I did some research and it is an old tradition.
You can use the berries to make some foods...you see this look after the earth and the earth will look after you stuff...do you think it will ever catch on??
Anyway, on the bus on the way back I find a copy of one of the UK’s pathetic-excuse-for-a-newspaper newspapers. the story “1500 jobs to go” got a small paragraph and was deemed much less important than the “i lost 8 stone (112 pounds)” story, which got the rest of the page.
And people wonder why everything is so f%cked up.
Posted by michael from scotland on 07/23 at 04:04 PMYippy skippy! Can’t wait to see the photos.
michael, can you use Rowan tree branches to trip up imperialists? (captcha sez ‘theory’)
Posted by Zen Prole from Pac NW on 07/23 at 04:34 PMI will give it a go.

I’ll post a photo of Helga and I by the end of the weekend.
Posted by Mickey Z. from Astoria on 07/23 at 06:04 PMThe process was weird cos it was in the middle of her little front lawn.
It was a bought tree so it is already about 7 feet tall. Had to dig a hole of about 2 feet by 2 feet and then dump some compost in and pour a lot of water into the hole then leave it for a bit.
after that had to put the tree in and cover it over and fill the gaps with the soil i had dug and a bit more compost. then I had to clear the turf off of about a square metre around it and dig an inch or two down to set little stone borders around it.
After that it was hammering in poles and then cutting some wire and stapling it onto the poles so it gets a little protection from cats and dogs while it is still a young tree. I wouldn’t have done those last few things but it wasn’t my garden or choice so i did.
The only other time i planted a tree was 7 years ago in Nepal and for entirely different tradtional reasons.
This has all put me in somewhat contemplative mood.
Posted by michael from scotland on 07/23 at 06:17 PMJust watched 25 minutes of tv for the first time in a long time. 25 minutes was all I could take.
Do i miss out on what is going on cos i dont watch tv? It didn’t seem like that. Seemed like a pile of shite.
At least it was a comedy programme and there was one good line. The guy said that one of BP’s recent excuses is that “the amount of oil in the gulf area compared to the amount of water is miniscule” or something like that. He compared this to saying “I had a piss in the swimming pool...”
Posted by michael from scotland on 07/23 at 06:27 PMworld cup is finished i know but everyone remembers the kung fu kick and forgets that this one was fucking shocking (and was 10 minutes before). If his studs (i think you say cleats in america) had been planted that this could easily have been a career-ending thing....
Posted by michael from scotland on 07/23 at 07:05 PMHi, Helga. Welcome to NY.
Posted by Charles from Jersey City, NJ on 07/23 at 07:46 PMNew post is now up...including my photo with Helga.
