Posted by Mickey Z. from Astoria on 04/20 at 11:51 AMHi, as usual I’m busy busy. But I was watching a bunch of TV shows yesterday to catch up and got really annoyed.
On Bill Maher’s show they talked about nukes and the recent treaty. First Bill shocked his panel by saying that the whole situation with nukes and Israel is a huge double standard and also pointed out that if nukes were about to obliterate America, he’d personally hope the president was humane enough not to push the retaliation button and probably take out most of humanity.
He then basically proved the point that having them at all is useless.
I was impressed - BUT ...
Then, having just riffed on the Tea Party and how they were badly informed and simply not going on facts ... he indulged Lawrence Bender, who just made a documentary on the subject, on ‘loose nukes’ and sold materials.
I couldn’t believe it.
I have always thought that common sense tells us that the process of making and launching a nuke from beginning to end can only be done by the efforts of an entire industrialized nation and even then it’s hard.
There was a guy on DN just last week showing clearly how the idea of stolen or loose nukes was completely pie in the sky and could never happen.
And yet, there they were on Real Time talking about how it was the real problem.
Posted by Andy from Shanghai on 04/20 at 01:57 PMHi all,
I couldn’t help but notice the irony of the US Govt talking about nuclear proliferation. Israel got them from??? The UK and France got them with help from??? Pakistan got them from???...North Korea got the technology from...Pakistan. India.... Obama talking about nukes is like the milkman talking about veganism.Posted by Rick (the Cartoonist) from England on 04/20 at 02:23 PMHey Andy and Rick.
Posted by Mickey Z. from Astoria on 04/20 at 05:49 PMThere aren’t any smooth comments or jokes to make about Earth Day or the Steve Irwin. There’s some footage of the boat at work in Sharkwater.
