5 ways to look at a tree

  1. Was reading the previous post’s comments on Derrick Jensen. Yes, actually reading him before commenting would be a bonus.

But as to the comment itself on action and the fact it could be referring to almost anyone ... that’s true. There’s no innocent bystanders. Not doing anything is enabling at this point.

We have to be living good lifestyles, and if it’s too hard because we’re inside a system that doesn’t allow us to live ethically - then we have to change that system.

Consider this: we all know that forests are the primary source or regenerating the air that we need to breathe - to live. And yet we’ve cut down 80% of them since we had accurate records.

Jensen sez: This culture is insane, it has a death urge.

Now consider this - what’s the primary cause of southern hemisphere deforestization - the cattle industry, most of which is exporting beef to developed nations.

If you know this, read into it and accept it as true - then still eat beef, you are insane too.

    Bring it on.

  2. You got it Andy. Mickey, the comment on your truthout article that I thought was interesting was this:

"There are lots of truly dedicated people who believe in Carbon forced Anthropogenic Global Warming and have modified their lifestyles as much as they can according to their beliefs. I salute them even if I don’t agree with them. They talk the talk and walk the walk and are totally deserving of our respect for doing so.

In the meantime ... I’ll know that Al Gore has become serious about Carbon when he dumps his private jet, his limos and his monster house and starts leading by example.

I do know a Climeball hypocrite when I see one."

I thought it was relatively fair and at least not knee-jerk.

I loved the Chinese proverb in your Planet Green tree article today.

  3. In a note that relates to what both Andy and Keir just said, I’m hoping to write more for Truthout, starting with an article about the Left ignoring animal rights (much like what I’ll talk about at the Left Forum this year)

  4. You are so right, Mickey:
‘Everything, it seems, is potentially a “commodity.”’ I must say that I largely lay the blame not only at the neocons’ but also at many evolutionary scientists’ feet.  They even talk about ‘investment’ when it comes to bringing up children.

And hello, Andy and Keir.  The sun has finally come out in Daylesford.

I wish you two and the Cool Observer all the best,
    Helga

  7. I was just talking about that exact point this morning, Michael. And btw, I “rated” your article.

As much as I hate moving on before 10 comments are made here, I will be putting up a new post soon.

  8. Okay, since I know you’re all on the edges of your seats, shuddering with anticipation, I just put up a new post.

    See you there.
