A very strange time in my life, for sure...

  1. The question if the oil spill was in my neighborhood. The frustrating thought is it seems, in my geographic area, people don’t want to think about the problems right in their neighborhood.

They will rant about the wars in the Middle East, the newest weapon development and so on, but don’t want to even talk about the same criminal mentality that exists right next door.

For some time I thought this is the same as when one goes into therapy. The client focus is always ‘out there’, never bringing any element of the problem, inwardly, personally.

‘Out there’ is certainly screwed up but sometimes it’s easier to fix what is going on inside to help live with the external crap.

Now, I’m not into the mainstream approach to therapy, but each individual is a microcosm to the collective society. If the toilet is clogged, it won’t help by going over to the neighbors house and taking a plunger to their hopper.

So, I’m not completely certain why people can’t deal with the problems right underneath their feet, in their neighborhood, on their shoulders. [keep it at distance] for I don’t really want to deal with anything. Chant peace, it’s a nice hobby and seems worthwhile. I blame my husband for the pain I feel after I shot myself in the foot. Displacement, projection, scapegoating...does anyone know what I’m talking about because I don’t!

  2. I’m with ya Joe, on all of it.

Also, from yesterday @ RMJ. Good luck with the nomination. I personally can’t bear to vote as the experience of validating the system is just too much to bear. However, for you it seems like you’d be impacting a local community where people know you, which sounds grassroots to me ...

..except that it’s part of the lure of the system, you can do local change - through us.

Telling point = your newspaper situation ...if you try to self organise outside of the system, it censures and attacks you.

Thus is the true authoritarian nature of the system revealed.

  3. I’m learning (the hard way) that sometimes the best moments of clarity come from accepting that things are usually unclear and in flux.

In other words, I’m with Andy in being with Joe.

  4. The USA is going, going Ghana. Who’ll join me in raising a toast to the only African team left in the World Cup? (And cheers to Uruguay, too...land of the Tupamaros)

  5. I don’t know what’s going one Mickey...but if the us is losing the soccer match, that’s reason for a toast. In fact, I think simply the thought of a toast, deserves a toast.

    and u r right...I
it is nice to see some of the more unfancied teams doing well though, such as Ghana and Uruguay.

  9. Oops.

    this is from BBC....

United States coach Bob Bradley believes his side can capitalise on finishing top of their group, ahead of England, by reaching the final.

Bradley’s side take on Ghana in the round of 16, with the winner facing either Uruguay or South Korea in the quarter-finals.

“If we continue to build on the successes so far we can go to the end,” Bradley said.

“We try hard not to get ahead of ourselves but at the same time everybody has this idea that if everybody gives their best effort, if everybody puts everything they have into it and if things go our way then we can travel far.”
