"All about going against the grain" (Gina Ranalli interview)
Good morning Mickey and everyone. I like the Contemplation Photo.
Posted by Joe of Maine from The Window on 06/29 at 03:35 AMThanks, Joe...and good morning to you, too.
Posted by Mickey Z. from Astoria on 06/29 at 04:21 AMI need some advice from the global community. The local activist community doesn’t want to discuss problems that are right in the community where they live.
It’s safe to discuss the problems that are a thousand miles away but not in the neighborhood where you live.
I can only speculate about this one. I’m trying to develop a commentary about this community which is only a microcosm of corrupt america. I told you about the last ‘witch hunt’ that was directed at me.
Perhaps I shouldn’t try to communicate anything with this group...?
Posted by Joe of Maine from The Window on 06/29 at 05:30 AMIs there a “cause” your local community has united around? If so, Joe, perhaps you can join in that effort, make connections, and then begin introduce the bigger picture?
Posted by Mickey Z. from Astoria on 06/29 at 05:33 AMI guess this is the psychology, Joe: discussing the far off stuff is, in fact, discussion based.
Discussion the local stuff that is right there will lead to action.
Posted by Andy from Shanghai on 06/29 at 05:37 AMThanks Mickey and Andy.
There doesn’t seem to be any objection to the local politics abusing their authority, unnecessary tax increases, spending taxpayer money irresponsibly, the silent war against the poor and so on.
The ONLY movement is stop the war, meaning the one in the Middle East, not the one in Somalia, in the Philippines and any other covert war.
Besides chanting stop the war, there’s only denial and apathy about anything else. One woman said, “I prefer to be global”...,how grandiose. Well being global also recognizes the same kind of authoritarian abuse that happens everywhere which includes, right down the street. The answer might be to not allow these people into my consciousness. Some of these activists are still convinced Obama will prevail as a nice caring human being and all this shit.
Posted by Joe of Maine from The Window on 06/29 at 08:57 AMGood morning joe, Mickey, Andy…
Joe...That is a problem here too. My most recent articles have been about local issues but they are censored locally. One recent one was published in a Canadian Magazine. The topic of that one was military contracts in Vermont. There is GREAT pressure to be in denial about local issues. Someone might be offended. The ol’ boys network is very powerful in New England. “The silent war against the poor” - you got that right, Joe. It is more important to spend money on 4th of July municipal fireworks to celebrate “the bombs bursting in air” - than to give that money to a struggling family. Also, the myth that the poor pay no taxes is very widespread. You and I know that the poor pay a higher percentage of their income in taxes than any Hedge Fund Manager ever does.
