All you need is hate

  1. This time zone thing gives me an unfair shot at the first comment. I’m getting up and you guys are going to bed.

Great article Mickey. In my native UK, we had real hope when Blair got in with the ‘Labour’ party and the long rule of the Thatcherites was over - but I was only a naive 18 year old.

Then the first thing he did was to try and dismantle our free university education. Then it became aparant he was just as ‘to the right’ as the tories.

Finally, he gets on with war and sanctions in Iraq.

He should be thought of the same way as any infamous agressive wartime leader: and yet the so called intelligent papers at home just printed his PR department’s official releases over and over again.

That’s when I realised that the whole thing was a big joke.

Blair should get an appropriate media nickname like “The butcher of Basra” and then be hauled off to the international court for jailing.

    Caotcha says: same

  2. Hello Andy.

Great article, Mick.  Reading the comments there I was sad that Rosemarie can’t watch videos online, because Donahue sure did make O’Reily look like the fool that he is (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ctlmholr45c).

    Go Yanks.

  3. Hello Expendables. I like that idea, Andy. Can you imagine if CNN referred to Bush as “American dictator” or “Washington’s thug” or something like that?

JOS: What do you think of this year’s Yanks?

  4. Hey Jos and Mickey

yeah, everytime they mention Hugo Chavez’ name they have to add ‘Leftist’ or ‘firebrand’ or ‘populist’ ... this tells us a few things about those writers:

    1) They see themselves as ‘rightists’ (whatever that actually means)
    2) They think being a leader who appeals to the people is bad.
    3) They have outrageous double standards and lie about their jouralistic ‘neutral’ practices.

Why not, as you say Mickey, start articles like “right wing Bush ...” or “facist Blair” ...

  5. On the Yanks:  We got lucky picking Joe Girardi.  I love Donnie, he was all we had for many years in the 80s and early 90s, but Girardi was the right choice for manager.  I think he is going to bring back the fire the Yanks had under Joe from 96 through about 2001.  That being said, I am going to miss Joe.

Then it all depends on our young pitchers.  If we can get some of the things I think they’re capable of doing...combined with Wang and Pettie having good years...the Yanks will be in good shape.  The line up, though getting old in some spots, will produce.

One of the interesting questions will be where Joba ends up...I know he is supposed to become an eventual starter, but I don’t know if that is a good idea or not.  We’ll see…

What would be great would be to end with the Yanks coming in first in the East and the the Central taking the wild card with the Red Sox watching the playoffs from home.  Not out of fear of facing them, just because I think that is what Red Sox “Nation” deserves this year (ha ha!).

  6. Hate On: I was disappointed by the respondent on DV who advised Jedi tactics; passivity, circumspection, and an extensive marketing plan by Lucasfilms, Inc. It is the warmakers who need to evolve, and arguing for pure reason to prevail in this crisis is 51% childish.

    The Donahue/O’Reilly clip is great.

“Cocalero” is a fine documentary about Evo Morales. No narration, just a camera crew following his election campaign (subtitles in English). He faced a media anchor who tried to O’Reilly him about land redistribution, and his composure was absolute.

Beisbol: Opening Day of late just makes me think of what a scam MLB is, but that wears off a mite by about May 1. What the Yanks did to Joe Torre was one of the more appalling things ever. If they wanted him out, there was a decent way to do it. Now there are three (3) Steinbrenners in the saddle and Yahweh help Girardi if things don’t go well immediately. Can’t say much about the Red Sox, except interest in how ROY Dustin Pedroia and the shockingly talented Jacoby Ellsbury continue their development. I agree with JOS that the AL Central will be tight.

Letterman on the new NYY stadium: “Some of the seats will sell for $2,500. But the good news is that you can still get a beer for $19.”

  7. Hello Expendables...from sunny but chilly Astoria.

Baseball sure is a paradox for me. I love the game and my roots as a “fan” are deep...yet there’s so much to hate (there’s that word again) about the sports (and all sports).

Speaking of hate, I just posted a new article (it’ll be up here no later than Tuesday) and I just got a hate-filled e-mail from a prominent Lefty. Depending how things play out, you may see my exchange with him posted here soon.

  8. Hi Zen, Mickey, JOS, andy, and all…

The sun is shining here. What a treat - seems like I haven’t seen sunshine for a very long time.

JOS...Yes, too bad I can’t see the video but I have an idea of what it is like. I don’t want to mess around with my computer too much. I finally ended the “battle of the printers”.  I replaced the defective HP with an Epson. It is working great so far. It installed with no problems. It will take a little while for me to get over the “printer anxiety” though. Even the top notch tech guy could not get the HP to work. Now I can even scan photos - very easily.

Did I tell my one and only baseball story here before? If so, forgive me. When I was growing up I heard a lot of talk about our family relative who was a big wheel in baseball. I think he umpired a world series game in the 40s. My Dad and others talked a lot about him. Now, recently I checked him, Umpire Bill Jackowski, out on the Internet. I finally got to see a photo of him. He is black.  It was with great joy that I announced to the rest of my blue-eyed, blond haired family that we are multi-racial.

  9. Mickey #7, you have peaked our interest. I will be watching for that exchange with the “lefty”.

  10. Hello everyone...here’s my baseball story...I once went 4 for 4, striking out 4 times in one game...and I wasn’t even on steroids!

I can understand the jedi person, if he is saying we can understand hatred...however, I don’t think there is anything ‘incorrect’ about calling a politician a worthless, horses ass or a comatose, parasite, or a criminal who is lower than Whale shit or a frightened child pretending to be a responsible adult while sucking the nipple that is the larger society....

  11. RMJ: I’m not sure if I’ll publish any of the exchange but after my next post here, you’ll know who it is.

  12. Baseball is one thing I just cannot hate, despite the contradictions and hypocrosies in it.

    As for the politicians...F em!

    Go Yanks!

  13. joe...you do have a way with words.

    Tommy...I agree about the politicians.

Mickey #11...Hurry up, Mickey. I have to go and wash my hair. (Just kidding.) I’ll try to be patient.

About the troops. Someone needs to remind them that violating the Constitution is very unpatriotic - as is violating International Law. Besides that, every bomb that is dropped and every weapon that is fired endangers us. Call it blowback, or cause and effect, or chickens coming home to roost. Will someone please tell the troops that what they are doing makes us all less safe.

  14. Excellent question, Mickey!  We would not be intimidated by these elites, would you - even those who ask themselves the same question?

And as always, hi, Andy, JOS, Zen Prole, Rosemarie, Joe of Maine and Tommy frpm a wet and rather cool Daylesford.  More rain seems on the way.

Here’s my link for today:  a quite good piece on Israel and Palestine in today’s broadsheet.  Not quite as good as the LRB piece but interesting nonetheless:
