  1. Gr8 1 Z, LOL.
Laughing is all good. I think I laugh as much as a child, not an adult. I have toned down at work slightly though, as I got a reputation for laughing whenever I screwed anything up. Recently I added up some numbers wrong, missed off £50,000...oops. No one noticed, and now I’m laughing.

  2. Thanks, Rick.

On the face-to-face topic, I was planning to ask at my talk last week about setting up some kind of monthly get-together in NYC to create community and see what happens. Maybe we can set that up via this blog, Facebook, etc.

  3. Back at long last - after my mother-in-law passed away in the early hours of 22 January 2010.  At least I told her a few months earlier that she was a good mother-in-law.  It is much harder for Mr Helga of course to cope with this loss..

Hello, Rick - and congratulations to you, Mickey - on signing a contract for your next book. I love your ‘Self-Defense for Radicals’ and I haven’t even got ‘Dear Vito’ yet.  In the not too distant future, I want to buy the latter book as well.

In the meantime, the current leader of our opposition has sung the praises of virginity (a ‘gift from God’ in his view) - and here I thought that we lived in secular country and in the 21st century.  If I was religious, I’d pray that this man will never become our Prime Minister.  Unfortunately, that might still happen ..

    Take care!

  4. Welcome back, Helga. I’m sure I speak for all Expendables in extending my sympathy and warm wishes to you and yours.

  5. Hi All

Helga, Hope things are not too tough at this time. My thoughts are with Mr Hegla too.

Australian politics. I remember the fuss about Pauline Hanson, but I was thinking, “Where’s the equal fuss about Howard!”

  6. I’m hoping you’ll see some design tweaks here soon. Has anyone noticed I’ve switched to a more “normal” photo of myself up top?

  7. I saw that. smile

I liked the dress photo myself

  8. I don’t know Mickey, but the dress pix was useful in convincin’ an old feminist friend that you couldn’t be too macho…

  9. That’s funny. I’ve had folks tell me that the dress pic and the silly pirate hat pic had a negative impact on them. Who knows? You can’t make everyone happy. Plus, those photos were all at least 3-4 years old now. The one up top is from Yankee Stadium this past September.

  10. Helga, sympathies to you and your family.

    Mickey - another nice review.

I am waiting for the swanky new upgrade though.

Everyone… I am also starting a little series. Any suggestions would be received gratefully…

In fact...any guest spots would be welcome if anyone wanted to do one…

  11. Thanks, Michael. Here’s one for you:

  12. Thanks Mickey.

I am also sure there was a senator or a state senator in the USA who said something like…

“I don’t speak any other languages...if English was good enough for Jesus then it is good enough for me.”

    something like that anyway.

  13. Or: Just say no, as a drug therapy is as helpful as “have a nice day” is for mental illness.

Anyhow Mickey, doesn’t matter what you wear just keep your marvelous sense of humor. Content probably out trumps form but sometimes it’s pretty close…

  14. stay tuned for the minor web site tweaks. my css skills are rusty, and things are not behaving in all browsers as i had hoped (darn microsoft!) i also don’t have a standalone stylesheet editor anymore (stolen laptop - darn burglers!) - does anyone know of good free one?

can you guys tell me if the text in the Recent Discussion section on the right of this test page is HUGE?

and is the main content centered or flush left?

if you check today and comment, leting me know what browser you use and how big your monitor is would be helpful…
