  1. Dude, I got halfway through the first sentence of your metaphor, and I thought to write the Taoist saying made famous by Bruce Lee, only to discover that you already mentioned it.

    I’ll accept that as proof: great minds think alike.

    MickeyZ.net has been on my links page since I became fortunate enough to join the Expendables, right next Chomsky and Blum site links! I love these guys.

    Allow me to expand the metaphor. There’s the confused moths, yes, who flutter about aimlessly. But then there are those who do see the light, and they fly directly towards it, only to discover in a violent moment that it was just a car headlight.

    I sure do envy those confused moths!

  4. I first saw that Taoist/Bruce Lee quote in a book by Derrick Jensen. I thought the book was so wonderful I sent a copy to everyone in my family. They thought I went crazy. Jensen would appreciate the disconnect that the people (apparently) closest to me would rather see me as nuts than the culture I was pointing at. So.

    An important footnote to the confused moth article: extinction is natural, and will occur without human interference, just not at the enormous levels we’re seeing in the millenia since humans decided they were god’s gift to the planet.

    Elephants are acting a bit like confused moths these days, knowing their days are numbered and lashing out at the wrong targets. Hey: who here wouldn’t relish seeing some tough guy trophy hunters getting gored by angry elephants? As captcha says: PARTY!

    Re: Bruce Lee, I became a fan in high school. I got his book, “The Tao of Jeet Kune Do” and read it, and was fascinated not only by the martial arts, but by the philosophy, which was as much a part of the art as the physical aspects.

    As with Sun Tzu’s “Art of War”, it is applicable to many aspects of life, and not physical conflict only.

  8. Don Juan (Carlos Castanedas books) pointed out that moths might gather around artificial light, but are never foolish enough to burn themselves getting too near to a fire.

    Good morning everyone, Mickey, do you think you might consider making a links list of Expendables, and another of all your reciprocal links? 
    I know I’ve wondered if Expendable “X” has a blog, and/or wondered if the blog I was visiting belonged to Expendable “X”. Just a thought.

  12. Oh, yeah, I appreciate the link explaining Friday the 13th, too. I was aware of the explanation behind this “unlucky” day, but most people are not. I find it fascinating. While I disagree with many (or most) of the authors’ conclusions, “Holy Blood, Holy Grail” is a fascinating read. I have “The Temple and the Lodge” by one of the same authors, but haven’t read it yet.

    It’s all so “illuminating”, if you know what I mean.

  15. It is still Friday 13th in Astoria, but Saturday 14th is already more than 10 hours old in eastern Australia.  And it is rather chilly here:  a mere 68F after more than 86F yesterday.

  23. I have a 2002 Toyota Camry and the headlights have this filmy look to them. I’ve tried washing the outside, but the filmy part is on the inside. Do I have to take the headlight apart to clean it or are there easier ways short of buying a new headlight?   24. i have an 87 toyota camry with only like 84000 miles on it. the car used to run fine but its been sitting in my dtiveway for about 3 -4 years. the car does not run or anything we can barelyt start it without ether. we got a new fuel filter and new battery and also changed the spark plugs/ checked the fuses if anyone has any ideas i would appreciate it.Bankruptcy

  36. I collect different moths from around the country and I got this huge one, something told me it was pregnant and I was correct. The moth laid a bunch of eggs before it died and I just need a website of what I need to do to take care of them when they hatch. I’m not a Buffalo Bill wanna be, I’m not gender confused.
