Obama: A lay-up, or merely a foul shot?
Posted by Zen Prole from Urth on 11/21 at 07:12 AMWhat morons, BO is taking a shot at the wrong basket and whitey is still trying to block it !

Posted by michael from not scotland on 11/21 at 07:31 AMYour photos aren’t coming through so I’ll make a comment on the general tone of the last few posts.
It’s not that Obama is the answer to anything or that he shouldn’t be attacked.
It’s the way he’s thrown “the left” into a spasm of rage and inarticulate ranting.
Dare I say “Obama Derangement Syndrome”.
Yes, I’m echoing Michelle Malkin here and “Bush derangement syndrome” and yes it’s always difficult to find a way to criticize power without sounding like an inarticulate angry man on the street corner holding up a sign that says “the end is near”.
But the striking thing about the “left” critique of Obama is that, er, there really is no “left” crtique.
There are “leftists” parrotting Rush Limbaugh ("Obamamessiah" etc.)
If you want me to donate to your site you’re really going to have to do better.
Because this whole thing is about as pathetic as Nader’s .005% of the vote (nothing essentially if you count flipped voting machines).
Posted by Not an Obama Fan from on 11/21 at 07:44 AMThanks, folks...but so far, “Not an Obama Fan” is the winner. Anyone who can use the phrase “inarticulate ranting” while constructing a straw man has my vote.
Posted by Mickey Z. from Astoria on 11/21 at 07:51 AMAnyone who can use the phrase “inarticulate ranting” while constructing a straw man has my vote.
And yet you ARE “critiquing” Obama in exactly the same terms that Rush Limbaugh is.
The problem with accusations of “cultism” is that they’re made about any insurgent movement inside the Democratic Party.
Right after Gore won his Nobel Prize, Limbaugh came up with the term “Goracle”.
They made the “cultist” accusations against Dean supporters.
And now about Obama supporters.
Personally, make the “strawman” accusations all you want, I see little evidence that there’s any more of a “cultist” mentality among Obama supporters then there is among Nader or Derrick Jensen fans.
In fact, if you really want “cultism” that’s Derrick Jensen’s supporters. Here’s a guy who sits in Northern California raking in his book royalties while he’s pushing his young and naive followers to go out and risk jail.
What’s Obama pushing his supporters to do?
Oh yeah, vote and get involved in the Democratic process.
Posted by Not an Obama Fan from on 11/21 at 08:03 AMHmmm...Derrick Jensen or Barack Obama? You make the call…
And P.S. if you can back up this statement with facts, I’d love to hear it:
And yet you ARE “critiquing” Obama in exactly the same terms that Rush Limbaugh is.
Posted by Mickey Z. from Astoria on 11/21 at 08:06 AMi think i have finally found a politician who lives up to his hype…
Posted by michael from not scotland on 11/21 at 08:47 AMI’d settle for NOF providing some evidence the left has been thrown into a “spasm of rage.” It’s overwhelmingly been just the opposite.
Q: Does the avalanche of corporate cash Obama gathered affect “voting and getting involved in the Democratic (sic) process”? Are the principles of non-believers, aka The Hopeless, affected by this reality?
Gotta love that Jensen barb about “raking in book royalties.” I’m sure he’s buying himself an island somewhere. As for young and naive, I’ll gladly take their mistakes over someone else’s lies.
Posted by Zen Prole from Urth on 11/21 at 08:55 AMEven I sometimes get the “raking in book royalties” line. I love it.
And speaking of money, there’s this line:
If you want me to donate to your site you’re really going to have to do better. With that in mind, I think I will make every post consist of two words, repeated over and over: hope change, hope change. Hey, it got BO some $640 million. Surely, I’ll make enough to at least buy an island next to Derrick’s.
Posted by Mickey Z. from Astoria on 11/21 at 10:26 AMMichael, that image reminds me of the Diderot quote about stringing up the last politician with the entrails of the last priest.
Posted by Mickey Z. from Astoria on 11/21 at 10:27 AMi think diderot said the last king ;)
Posted by michael from not scotland on 11/21 at 10:40 AMAh yes, maybe it was Guy Debord who updated it to politician.
Posted by Mickey Z. from Astoria on 11/21 at 10:57 AMUm… I become perversely more attracted to this woman every day:
http://gothamist.com/2008/11/21/sarah_palins_turkey_pardon_mishap.phpPosted by James from Hell's Kitchen on 11/21 at 10:59 AMi am not well up on guy debord so i will have to take your word for it on that one.
Posted by michael from not scotland on 11/21 at 11:00 AMIf it wasn’t Debord specifically, it was likely Situationist graffiti.
James: sick video.
Posted by Mickey Z. from Astoria on 11/21 at 11:08 AMI didn’t actually watch it, I just read the Gothamist article. She’s never going to be Hillary’s running mate in 2012 if she keeps this up.
Posted by James from Hell's Kitchen on 11/21 at 11:15 AMHillary-Sarah in 2012? You’re a man ahead of your time, James.
Posted by Mickey Z. from Astoria on 11/21 at 11:24 AMAbout the ‘not an Obama fan’ person...perhaps it’s me, I find his rantings so incoherent my only response to this individual could be, “so, how’s the family”? I would then take the conversation from that point...,
Posted by joe of maine from on 11/21 at 11:33 AMThanks for the funny vids recommendation from yesterday, Michael.
I got nothing on the photo, ‘cept maybe: “White Men Can’t Jump”.
Posted by Jeremy R. Hammond from Taipei on 11/21 at 11:40 AMWhite men can’t jump...but they can sure fuck up an eco-system.
Posted by Mickey Z. from Astoria on 11/21 at 11:42 AMProsecute Obama and Not an Obama Fan.
Posted by James from Hell's Kitchen on 11/21 at 11:48 AMjust watched the vid
did anyone notice she said that ‘this is the time of year we shoudl work for peace and love’ - only this time apparently. the other times of year they can go f*ck themselves.
it reminded me of the bLIARs First election leaflet when he asked for a ‘more sane defence policy’ instead of asking for a ‘sane defence policy’
never fails to crack me up that.
Posted by michael from not scotland on 11/21 at 11:52 AMObama 2008 reminds me of BLIAR 1997.

Posted by Mickey Z. from Astoria on 11/21 at 02:29 PM“Con Juan” is my caption. Because he is a combination of a con artist and a Don Juan, with his admittedly nice smile. But like Don Juan, he will jilt those he has conned.

So “Not an Obama fan” is *supposedly* not an Obama fan. Uh huh. Anybody believe that? I swear, the truth does hurt these delicate little Obama suckers. I know that during the campaign they couldn’t stand it when I kept talking about Obama’s Bush-accomplice voting record and his neocon rhetoric. They called me a “Rove troll” because they couldn’t stand to hear the truth.“Not an Obama fan” makes the claim that Mickey Z is *supposedly* “critiquing” Walk on Water Obama in exactly the same terms as Limbaugh. Really?
Question: Why would anyone be wasting their time listening to Limbaugh in the first damn place to know or care what the fool is doing? Who cares what he says?!
“Not an Obama fan”: Your problem is that you don’t like the TRUTH. Typical. It conflicts with your Denial.
By the way, when are you Obama suckers going to “hold his feet to the fire” as you talked about doing all during the campaign? He’s making the appointments NOW. Why aren’t you “holding his feet to the fire” now? Are you going to wait until AFTER the appointments are made before you “hold his feet to the fire?” Queen Hillary of the Borg Collective is NOT “change.” In fact, none of these recycled people are “change.” They are the pro-war, pro-corporate, pro-Bush status quo. You Obama suckers have been duped, once again. Don’t you feel like a damn fool?
You should have paid more attention to the real change candidates: Nader/Gonzalez or Cynthia McKinney/Clemente. But you didn’t have the intelligence to do that.
Posted by Sam from San Francisco on 11/21 at 06:05 PMWhile we’ve got Sam riled up, I figured I’d toss this log on the fire:
http://www.alternet.org/waroniraq/107666Posted by Mickey Z. from Astoria on 11/21 at 09:53 PMHere’s one that all my raw food friends are in a tizzy about:
“It is now being widely reported that former Iowa Governor Tom Vilsack is being considered for the Secretary of Agriculture position in the Obama Administration. Vilsack is a notorious cheerleader for genetically engineered crops and chemical and energy-intensive industrial agriculture—certainly no friend of organic food and farming.
The biggest biotechnology industry group, the Biotechnology Industry Organization, named Vilsack Governor of the Year. He was also the founder and former chair of the Governor’s Biotechnology Partnership.
When Vilsack created the Iowa Values Fund, his first poster child of economic development potential was Trans Ova and their pursuit of
cloning dairy cows.Vilsack has a glowing reputation as being a schill for agribusiness biotech giants like Monsanto.
Vilsack was the origin of the seed pre-emption bill in 2005, which many people in Iowa fought because it took away local government’s possibility of ever having a regulation on seeds- where GE would be grown, having GE-free buffers, banning pharma corn locally, etc. Representative Sandy Greiner, the Republican sponsor of the bill, bragged on the House Floor that Vilsack put her up to it right after his state of the state address.”
Posted by Charles from Jersey City on 11/21 at 10:19 PMAt this point, I wouldn’t flinch if I heard Obama was thinking about having Cheney stay on as VP.
Posted by Mickey Z. from Astoria on 11/21 at 10:24 PMHad to share this from a friend of mine who was the biggest Obamaniac prior to the election:
“His cabinet is enough to make me ill. I really dont know how to feel about him anymore. All the excitement I felt about him has been replace with disapointment. I dont know what to think now.”
Guess we’ll be hearing a lot of that in the next four years.
Posted by Charles from Jersey City on 11/22 at 01:40 AMMe either, Mickey.
And the Obamatrons would say, “Well, I’m sure Obama has a very good reason for keeping Cheney on. You know, I won’t agree with everything Obama does and even though I *may* have had *some* problems with Cheney in the past, upon reflection, I really don’t think he’s been as bad as we thought he was. I think some of it was fabricated. He’s probably an okay guy and that’s why Obama is keeping him on. I trust Obama completely. I just feel it in him. I sense it from him when I see him. I know he’s doing what’s best for me and the country. You have to give him TIME.”
Yeah, that’s likely what they would say all right.
Posted by Sam from San Francisco on 11/22 at 02:13 AMHey, I’m surprised nobody commented that Obama was shooting with his left hand in that photo.
But back to the right here:
http://tinyurl.com/5w4wsmPosted by Mickey Z. from Astoria on 11/22 at 07:24 AMWe probably all knew the subject of BO would be a hot one for many reasons.
There was an anti-racism/hatred rally in Maine.
http://tinyurl.com/6fwltkI hope this isn’t just one of numerous diversions associated with the BO topic preventing people from noticing the last standing Palestinian or Lakota or Iraqi or that Cheney and Gonzalez will not be prosecuted...,
Posted by joe of maine from on 11/22 at 09:44 AMMickey 35, we can hope that playing basketball left-handed will be the least sinister thing he does.

Posted by Mickey Z. from Astoria on 11/22 at 10:26 AMAnother lively post here at CO. Obama, ahem, draws them in…
From a t-shirt advert on the #35 NYT link: http://tinyurl.com/6hnz7k I can’t decide what’s better, the t or the description. Lots of other fun shirts there, like this one for wearing to the next meet of Credentialed Career Leftists: http://tinyurl.com/6rmodv. The t’s are American Apparel, too - excellent fabric.
Cliff Notes for the formerly Obama-infatuated (FOI): He’s not there to create change, but to curb it by whatever means necessary.
Posted by Zen Prole from Urth on 11/22 at 03:13 PMLove the shirts, Zen.
Btw, a new post will be up very soon.
Posted by Mickey Z. from Astoria on 11/22 at 06:07 PMWhatever happened to the captions???? I got one for ya, Mickey: I believe I can fly.
Let me know if mine makes the top 3!
