"Either words or blows"
love the haiku, Mick.
Posted by JOS from Oak Park on 02/16 at 09:05 AMThanks, JOS. Any new poems from you these days?

Poetry to Monsanto - I like it, Mickey.I just got home from the store. I always notice the children, especially babies whenever I am out. Today there was a boy about 7 years old hiding amidst the aisles. He had a toy gun and periodically he would jump out into view and pretend to shoot people. What kind of a mother buys her child a gun? I have an orange plastic water pistol here. I use it to discourage squirrels from doing damage. I once had a sguirrel move in. He lived here in my attic for about a month until one day he decided it was time to move on. My daughter told me to get the orange gun out of site when she brought my grandson to visit. I agreed with her.

http://toygunshop.comPosted by Mickey Z. from Astoria on 02/16 at 04:50 PMand we wonder why there is so much violence in our culture. Toy stores are not fun anymore.
Posted by RMJ from Mickey Z 4 Prez Hdqts on 02/16 at 06:03 PMWhy would anyone belong to a political party that has Super Delegates...seems dumb to me.
Just in case someone comes by here who is thinking about voting for a dem - here is one more reason not to.
“In a speech to the Chicago Council on Global Affairs in April 2007, Sen. Obama (D-IL) advocated the expansion of the military to include an additional sixty-five thousand army soldiers and twenty-seven thousand marines. He also called for an increase in the number of Arabic speakers in the military....”Posted by RMJ from Mickey Z 4 Prez Hdqts on 02/16 at 06:39 PMI think we should call the dems the “WLP” - (The war lovers party).
Posted by RMJ from Mickey Z 4 Prez Hdqts on 02/16 at 07:15 PMHi RMJ. Thanks for the Obama quote. I’ll use it soon.
I went to an Islanders game with Michele’s family. I hadn’t been to a hockey game in maybe 30 years. Needless to say, things have changed a bit.
Posted by Mickey Z. from Astoria on 02/16 at 10:48 PMMichele and I just saw the amazing film, Grapes of Wrath here: http://www.movingimage.us/site/site.php
I had never seen it on the big screen so I appreciated the cinematography on a whole new level. The ending always makes me cry...but this time, the close relationship between Tom Joad and his Mom resonated far more deeply for me. I was weepy.
So...where is everyone?
Posted by Mickey Z. from Astoria on 02/17 at 04:48 PMHey RMJ...Hey Mickey.
Mick #2: no poems for me for about 3 months. I am taking a break and trying to write some short stories.
Posted by JOS from Oak Park on 02/17 at 05:04 PMHi JOS…
Mickey...I try to watch every time it is on TV. My favorite part is the monologue when Tom says “...If there is a person being beaten up by a cop...” Yes, the relationship between Tom and Mom is something very special and I understand why that would have a special meaning for you right now. HUGS....
Posted by RMJ from Mickey Z 4 Prez Hdqts on 02/17 at 06:21 PMGreat haiku - and great quote from Frederick Douglass. Rings very true!
No poem from me but one from Denver Butson, a poet who lives in Brooklyn:
Final Ordinances
who buries the dead
leads the paradeswho dances to Debussy
sweeps the sidewalkswho grows old gracefully
drives the schoolbuswho says ‘ night drowns us with false promises’
runs the postofficewho invents new words for fornication
builds the cathedralswho can walk through fire
walks through fire
For some reason, I like this poem and hope you do, too.
Hi to you, Mickey, JOS and Rosemarie and bye from a quite warm Daylesford: 92F today.Posted by Helga Fremlin from Daylesford, Australia on 02/17 at 07:13 PMOne last comment:
‘What kind of a mother buys her child a gun?’
My thoughts exactly, Rosemarie #4! Unfortunately certain members of my husband’s family think boys at least should learn about things military as soon as they reach a certain age - and needless to say, girls should only learn about ‘girlie’ things. A case of nurture clearly!Posted by Helga Fremlin from Daylesford, Australia on 02/17 at 07:17 PMI needed some “me” time so just got back from seeing Diary of the Dead… well maybe the reviews are a bit harsh to it, but they’re mostly accurate. Romero never reached the height of Dawn from what? ‘78, I think. Ah well, glad I saw it on the big screen at least.
Was worth it for the trailer for new Indiana Jones movie. Skeptical still of course, but well if anyone can do it, Indiana Ford can.
