Finding community on and off the wall

  1. Mickey, today and yesterday’s posts remind me...last week my friend’s 5-year-old was on his way to a soccer game. I told him to kick butt. He looked confused. His parents, both excellent teachers, told me that kicking butt is not the point. “Have fun” I then said, and the boy responded "Of course I’ll have fun.”

A little more tangentially and via the tribal roots conclusion of your poem, I’m reminded of Carl Sagan’s entertaining essay Monday Night Hunters.

Hey, heads up: tonight I will be singing live on the radio. You can catch it at wvbr.com between 6 and 7 pm eastern standard time. Haven’t been around much because I’ve been practicing!

  2. Damn, I’ll likely be on the subway tonight when you’re on the radio, Keir. Will it be archived?

  3. Not at the station, I don’t think. But if the live recording is any good I’ll post it on my band’s myspace, here.

  4. Cool...thanks. Have fun tonight. Or kick butt, as it were.

  5. I’ll second that....have fun, Keir.

  6. Hi RMJ. How’s it going in VT?

  7. Good luck Keir.

    Hi everyone.

I was watching Sen. Bunning filibustering the extension of unemployment benefits and wondering why it is that the entire country doesn’t just storm the senate and take it over.

How can people take that? The banks send poverty and unemployment spiraling down worse than ever through their private actions and choices - then get the bail out ... meanwhile the victims have their support cut along with comments about them being lazy and needing encouragement to work.

Do people know, was that clip and report put out across the main media channels?

Why are there not riots today?

  8. No riots but plenty of tea bag parties. We’ve all asked this over and over but, what will it take?

Keir: How was the radio gig?

  10. Hey Michael. Long time, no see. How are you?

Posted by Mickey Z. from Astoria  on  03/03  at  08:55 AM
  11. As busy as a very busy person with several special reasons to be busy.

    It sucks.

  14. I usually eschew exclamation points but this is an exception:

    Joe!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Welcome back, my friend.

  15. Andy (#7) people are just too damn comfortable. (I include myself in this.) Not enough people have their backs against the wall. And some of those who do (like the ‘tea-baggers’ etc) have been organized, their justifiable fury has been harnessed very carefully. Others are mocked: think ‘looters’ after an earthquake or hurricane.

Joe, I second MZ’s emotion; welcome back!

  16. joe !!!!!!!!!!!!!! WOW, wish I could go to see Angela too.

    Hi Mickey and all…
The sun is predicted to return soon, or maybe not so soon, but someday.
Yesterday was voting day. The same ones were re-elected. No surprize there. The ol’ boys network up here has complete control. Most people have stopped going to the annual Town Meetings - what’s the point? You can’t fight ‘em and you don’t want to join ‘em. Might as well stay home and re-read one of Mickey’s books.

  17. For what it’s worth, I’ll have a post about Angela Davis up soon.

  18. Hey Joe, and everyone else.

RMJ that’s depressing, but when people feel they have no recourse through the system, that’s when they devise other ways to change things - which you already know all about, of course.

Also, for all the talk of Obama being a ‘socialist’ and scaremongering about a revolution, the GOP and Fox might want to take a look at the tea-baggers and increasing right-wing militias etc ... have they entertained the thought that THEY are producing an authoritarian take over of the country?

Not that there isn’t one already, mind you.

  19. Thanks, all.

A full new post is up and running now.
