Halloween 2009: 10 Real Life Things Way More Frightening Than Frankenstein or Freddie
great article but i imagine the difficulty there was narrowing it down to ten rather than expanding it.
Posted by michael from not scotland on 10/22 at 07:50 AMYeah, it comes down to knowing your audience and the typical Planet Green reader is not necessarily in the Expendable league, you know?
Posted by Mickey Z. from Astoria on 10/22 at 07:53 AMyou might have to retract that if they all come over here!
i put a shout on that twitter thing about your article too.
Posted by michael from not scotland on 10/22 at 07:55 AMThanks, Michael...and yes, I’d happily retract it if some PG readers become regulars here. Happily…
Posted by Mickey Z. from Astoria on 10/22 at 07:56 AMAbsolutely the scariest shit imaginable. Guess that’s why so many people pretend it ain’t happening. I’m talking about all the puns in the pomes article of course.
Oh the Halloween stuff is a little scary too! On point 4, I am with you on bringing an end to factory farming, and for people switching off the meat-based diet. Of course. But going vegetarian, or vegan, or raw, will not in-and-of-itself end factory farming. That’s why I’m glad you always mention going local, and organic. I was surprised (was I really?) to hear Monsanto mentioned as a financial supporter while listening to NPR this morning...some convoluted 2+2=5 slogan about their hybrid and biotech seeds being more efficient. I think it was literally “Monsanto: more production = more conservation.”
Captcha says “maybe”.
I say not.Posted by Keir from here and there on 10/22 at 10:41 AMPuns. What can I say?
And yes, veganism alone is a step but a futile step without a drastic downsizing the agricultural-industrial complex. Vegan, local, organic, and raw. Four solid steps in a good direction.
Posted by Mickey Z. from Astoria on 10/22 at 10:49 AMmichael’s right; the list could go on and on. The photos of plastic-choked albatross corpses should be stapled to Rush Limbaugh’s forehead. (others as well...another list that could reach epic proportions)
Demons Flee In Fear Dept: It’s five weeks since the sunken toxics story broke, but there hasn’t been much more about it. One sensational detail is that skulls have been found aboard the Cunsky. Some additional info can be sifted out of these two links, but huge questions remain, like the exact location and depth, and WTF will be done about this calamity.

http://tinyurl.com/yb97cpvThough Expendables know I’m no fan of either, Democrat Al Franken had a fun little tête-à-tête with a Senate witness. http://tinyurl.com/yjg5339 She got off lightly, but this is a worthy antidote to Straussian madness. I’ll bet there have been minor shockwaves among the think tank set. Fascists always show their brittleness when faced with strength, and here’s to more of that.
Posted by Zen Prole from Pac NW on 10/22 at 03:01 PMI tried to do something for Planet Green about that sunken toxics story but no luck yet.
Posted by Mickey Z. from Astoria on 10/22 at 09:38 PMno fan of obama obviously and i suspect his healthcare plans for america area bluff like everything else about him but some of the reactions against it are just incredible.
I mean for fucksake....perspective people…
“What they are attempting to do in health care, particularly in treating the elderly, is not something like what the Nazis did. It is precisely what the Nazis did.”
Richard Land, Southern Baptist Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission
How very christian of him.
Posted by michael from not scotland on 10/23 at 03:35 AMIt puts radicals in an impossible spot: To defend Obama against the loonies or join the chorus but try to, um, “refine” the criticisms?
Posted by Mickey Z. from Astoria on 10/23 at 06:13 AMon a tangentially related point it probably demonstrates that US propaganda is failing somewhat that when i was younger the phrase “Only in America” was probably refused to refer to something positive or at least whimsical.
These days it is kind of a joke pointed at conspicuous useless consumption, obesity and wingnuttery in general...the above quote being an example [this is not to say that those problems don’t exist elsewhere]
Posted by michael from not scotland on 10/23 at 06:19 AMThanks, everyone. Another packed new post is up and running.
Posted by Mickey Z. from Astoria on 10/23 at 10:12 AMWow, thanks for this information. I still need to read Bob Torres’ book, Making a Killing: The Political Economy of Animal Rights.
