Jesus is not exactly thrilled with landmines, depleted uranium, and daisy cutters
Good morning all...Mickey when I was about 8 years old I had a discussion with our parish priest. I asked him if God also saved those on other planets by sending a Savior there. The priest was not happy with my question but he did answer it. I still remember that he said that the Savior’s grace would extend to all, even if they were on another planet, but maybe if they were without sin they did not need saving.
About UFO’s. Sure, I believe in them but I believe that they probably do not come from other planets with little green men in them. They are probably optical illusions, weather phenomena, or just ordinary aircraft that are unidentified. The real question for me is whether or not there is intelligent life elsewhere in the universe.

Great statement!Posted by RMJ from Churchill 4 Prez Hdqts on 08/06 at 07:36 AMHere is one of mine about Hiroshima.
http://tinyurl.com/fxewwPosted by RMJ from Churchill 4 Prez Hdqts on 08/06 at 07:41 AMI don’t go in for religion or “faith” but as far as I know the gods of far too many Christians, Jews, Muslims and Hindus are pretty much thrilled with daisy cutters, depleted uranium and the rest as long as their use is said by enough religous officials to serve some invented absolute purposes that they profess to profess.
I’m never concerned with what’s going on in outer space unless it involves Reaganite lasers pointed at my planet. That said, as far as I’m aware our very ability to communicate in this manner right now is thanks to space age war technology and the fact that the satellites keep rolling around up there and are open to us is thanks to war economy. The same Dr. Strangeloves who get orgasmic over atom bombs also quaintly allow us---I can’t figure this out---to bitch about it. I guess that keeps us out of their hair.
Posted by Keir from The Hague on 08/06 at 08:23 AMGood morning Mickey, RMJ, Keir,
Great post today. (Although it’s sad that your 2 year old article is still so timely!)
Virgin birth, schmirgin birth. If Jesus tried turning water into wine today he’d end up with some sort of herbicide and find himself recruited by Monsanto.
I’ll bet there are more than a few with laptops who’ll claim to be the latest thing...Messiah v4.0?
Mickey if you take the 700 club, I’m sure all the Expendables will jam their phone lines.UFO’s? Yup. We cannot possibly be the most evolved humanoids in the universe, can we?
If we are, then we’re in much deeper trouble than I’d thought.Posted by Amelopsis from Canada on 08/06 at 09:04 AMI hope someone’s dropped leaflets.....Condolizard is having birth pangs.
Posted by Amelopsis from Canada on 08/06 at 09:34 AMHello Expendables, he says..."although" he has nothing to add at the moment. Good ol’ captcha…
Posted by Mickey Z. from Astoria on 08/06 at 11:32 AMMickey that youtube says the video is no longer available. (I forgot to mention that earlier)
Posted by Amelopsis from Canada on 08/06 at 12:05 PMThanks, Empress. It was Patti Smith singing “Gloria” on Saturday Night Live. Anyway, I replaced it with something “cool.”
Posted by Mickey Z. from Astoria on 08/06 at 12:27 PMRegulars here probably have noticed Expendable Mudge’s absence. I certainly did..and I e-mailed him to check in. I asked simply: “Everything okay?” Mudge replied:
No. I’m got a cold; my boss at Gatti’s got on my last nerve once too often and I went to her boss and complained, so now I get the hairy eyeball all day AND, mysteriously, I have fewer hours than normal; my second editing client told me, after bouncing a check, that she can’t pay me anymore; my dearly beloved ex is in foreclosure and I can’t help or even offer shelter since this house isn’t mine; blahblahblah.
I’m also not happy at the anti-Israel tone of recent posts. I am violently offended by the special pleading for Arabs...their villages get bombed OH SHIT OH DEAR the fucking Arab homicide bombers kill people oh well, let’s see the violence in context shall we, and I say NO we shall not see it in context unless we see it in an Israeli context.
We owe the Jews. We should pay for what was done. As to the Israelis “outliving the Palestinian dispossessed,” isn’t that precisely what the world conspired to do to Holocaust survivors regarding their multibillion dollar Nazi-confiscated accounts in Switzerland and Germany and Czechoslovakia and France and...you get my drift. Funny how a war-torn continent was able to finance such a quick recovery from a devastating war, huh?
As to the Palestinians, they don’t exist. They’re Jordanians. Look at pre-1967 maps. That was West Jordan, not Palestine. I am partisan here, and I don’t care a damn (I mean this) about what the Israelis do to protect themselves from their hate-filled, militarily inept neighbors. Israel’s government is an unpleasant dictatorship. Yep. So is Syria’s, so will be again Iraq’s, don’t let’s talk about the horrible theocrats of Saudi Arabia. Where’s the ringing condemnation of them? Where’s the ringing condemnation of Syria for its long-term involvement in Lebanon’s descent into chaos and horror?
This is one of the several reasons I’m not hanging around lately. I’m already uncomfortable with the cold, and I don’t need to see things that look to me like defenses of indefensible acts in the context of condemning defensible acts of war against implacable enemies.
If anyone’s been wondering, feel free to post this email to let the Expendables know what’s happened to me, and that I wish all happiness and health.
Posted by Mickey Z. from Astoria on 08/06 at 01:29 PMHi Mudge,
I’m really sorry to hear all’s not well. ‘Whammies’ your way that you’ll be over your cold soon.
I’m sorry that our opinions on the middle east are so far apart. The feelings you express about the topic seem like they could be my own, unfortunately from the other side of the metaphorical fence.I hope the “price” of that difference is not a total lack of discourse and that once you’re feeling better, an Expendable Nation will again have Mudge’s contribution to conversations.
(this might’ve been better in an email that wasn’t - just say the word)
Posted by Amelopsis from Canada on 08/06 at 01:39 PMMudge, I want to second what Amelopsis says but I add that I love you and everyone misses you.
Posted by RMJ from Churchill 4 Prez Hdqts on 08/06 at 03:03 PMIs this where you got the inspiration for your post?
Posted by TM from on 08/06 at 03:12 PMI hadn’t see that, TM. Too bad...I would’ve included it in the post.

Thanks, RMJ, Here’s something to “remember”:
David Ben Gurion sez: “If I were an Arab leader I would never make terms with Israel. That is natural: we have taken their country . . . We come from Israel, but two thousand years ago, and what is that to them? There has been anti-Semitism, the Nazis, Hitler, Auschwitz, but was that their fault? They only see one thing: we have come here and stolen their country. Why should they accept that?”
(I’ll re-post this quote tomorrow)
Posted by Mickey Z. from Astoria on 08/06 at 04:21 PMToday I received this as part of an e-mail. I have not verified the accuracy of the quote.
Menachem Begin used the Holocaust as a justification for the invasion of Lebanon. On June 5, 1982 he told the Israeli Cabinet:
“The hour of decision has arrived. You know what I have done, and what all of us have done to prevent war and bereavement. But our fate is that in the Land of Israel there is no escape from fighting in the spirit of self-sacrifice. Believe me, the alternative to fighting is Treblinka, and we have resolved that there would be no Treblinkas. This is the moment in which courageous choice has to be made. The criminal terrorists and the world must know that the Jewish people have a right to self-defense, just like any other people” (Iron Wall, p. 404-405).
Almost 18 years later, the Israeli army was forced out of Lebanon after murdering more than 20,000 Lebanese & Palestinian civilians. The only difference between the old and the new Treblinka that in new Treblinka it was Lebanese and Palestinian civilians who were being murdered, no European Jews.

And ‘hi’ to all you expendables - it is a beautiful wintry day in Daylesford: blue sky, hardly any wind and 50 F. Must say I have been extremly erratic in my Internet habits in the last few days but I always try to call in here even if I don’t always comment. In any event, my comments are not half as intelligent as all yours - or are they? Maybe on some days.
I’m off to Melbourne again until Saturday/Friday, so I hope you have a good week coming up.
Ciao, Helga
