Meat causes 51% of climate change
If that wasn’t jaw dropping enough ..throw in the massive deforestization from the cattle industry too.
And the water pollution from factory farming.
And the fact the ratio of grain used to meat produced is 10:1 Like, ten pounds of grain to produce one pound of meat.
What are more than half of all anitbiotics produced globally used for? They are fed to factory farm animals who are not sick to ‘protect’ them from the unsanitary conditions ... and we get ...superbugs!
To be honest, I only needed to know/realise one thing. Animals feel pain and fear.

Posted by Mickey Z. from Astoria on 03/13 at 10:57 AMWhile I always appreciate your articles and calling attention to Al Gore’s hypocrisy, you drive me nuts every time you mention soy. I wish you wouldn’t recommend it. It’s awful for you. Highly allergenic, terrible for the thyroid (especially in women), high in estrogen (so it feminizes men), and supposedly it’s even bad for the brain too.
There are a lot of articles out there on the toxic dangers of soy. It’s bad stuff.
Posted by Charles from Jersey City on 03/13 at 11:59 AMThe jury’s out on soy and I haven’t found a single credible source on the “feminizes men” claim. If you click on the word “soy” in my PG post, it’ll bring you to a post that contains links with many takes on soy. For now, I suggest it in moderation for those seeking to move away from a meat and dairy diet.
Posted by Mickey Z. from Astoria on 03/13 at 12:12 PMWell, the “feminizes men” tidbit is the least of it. It clearly does do a lot of damage to the thyroid.
Posted by Charles from Jersey City on 03/13 at 12:16 PMI dunno..even the well-known urban legends site says the soy-thyroid link has not been determined:
http://www.snopes.com/medical/toxins/soya.aspIf you have pre-existing thyroid issues or don’t consume enough iodine, it might be wise to avoid soy. If not, then I stick with my “moderation” advice.
Posted by Mickey Z. from Astoria on 03/13 at 12:21 PMThat really is jaw-dropping, Mickey! Full disclosure: I still eat meat but shall try to mend my ways.
Hello, Andy and Charles - from down under where it is warming up again: up to 76F. On the other hand, this made me feel hot under the collar: the Utah miscarriage law which treats embryos/fetuses like human beings:

Posted by Helga Fremlin from Daylesford, Australia on 03/13 at 02:27 PMThanks, Helga. Your link made me realize it’s been years since I listened to the Counterspin radio show.
Posted by Mickey Z. from Astoria on 03/13 at 03:22 PMHey everyone,
Charles, are you talking about a specific product or just all soya bean products? Like Tofu?
I’m big on Tofu, especially as here it’s cheap, everywhere and comes in so many varieties.
Not even the meat marketing board can make Tofu sound bad here ;)
Posted by Andy from Shanghai on 03/13 at 06:21 PMI just put up a new post so if you wanna continue the conversation, please carry it over, okay? Thanks…
