My name is URL
Counter Recruitment, anyone?
Posted by Keir from The Hague on 05/16 at 05:42 AMBono is editing todays Independent newspaper in the UK. I know there are mixed feelings here, but this sums up mine better than any other blogger I’ve managed to find yet. Didn’t look very hard. Mew: do I get 3 points?
Posted by Uncle Joe from 10 miles north of Mew on 05/16 at 06:50 AMKeir said something about sending the Bushistas to the moon naked last night…
“Most truths are so naked that people feel sorry for them and cover them up, at least a little bit.”
--Edward R. Murrow, journalist (1908-1965)Posted by Mudge from Austin on 05/16 at 08:01 AMthe bear link reminds me of nepal.
my friend went on a safari and they have all sorts of things there so they got a little prep before they went on the jungle walk...and it went like this..
“ok, we have rhinos tigers and sloth bears. if a rhino charges you you run in zigzags because they are faster than you but they can’t turn quickly. if you see a tiger you maintain eye contact and back off slowly. it might not work but it is you best chance.
Q. what do we do if we see a sloth bear?
A. pray”Posted by michael from exile on 05/16 at 09:19 AMMickey, I had no idea you were growing up to be such a pretty, 16 year-old, Puerto Rican girl.
There is nothing more idiotic than drinking flaming liqour and lighting the house on fire.
I still think that Stormtrooper is hilarious…
Later all,
JOS
Posted by JOS from Chicago on 05/16 at 09:33 AMmichael...I love the sloth-bear quote.
You now what is more shocking than seeing a bear eat a monkey...that people are shocked that a bear would eat a monkey.
Sloth bears usually eat ants and termites, but if you lock them up in an enclosed area, then have a bunch of people come around and yell and gawk at them, there is a good chance they will freak out and eat a monkey.
Posted by JOS from Chicago on 05/16 at 09:54 AMAnimals eat each other. Humans are animals. Ergo, humans eat animals.
Posted by Mudge from Austin on 05/16 at 10:49 AMIt’s when humans start eating humans that things get extremely nasty…
Posted by JOS from Chicago on 05/16 at 10:51 AMHello Expendables and welcome back, Uncle Joe. I suggest visitors click on Uncle Joe’s “this” link. Worth a look for sure.
Mudge, I’ll ignore the anti-vegan bait you’ve set out and instead compliment you on the Murrow quote.
Big Country Commando: I was thinking specifically of you when I posted that frenetic stormtrooper. I remember your reaction from last time.
Keir, thanks for the link. Michael, thanks for the animal anecdote. Good stuff all around.
Did anyone get a chance to peruse the Police State video? Also, the return of SDS is interesting.
Posted by Mickey Z. from Astoria on 05/16 at 11:52 AMHi everyone....I just clicked on Uncle Joe’s “this” link. Very good. Also, can it really be true that the SDS will make a return? Up here in a little town with 3 colleges, and within 50 miles of too many more to even count, the absence of the college aged from any activism has been shocking. In 1991, when the war began, there were a lot of young people involved. Now there are almost none.
News now reports that Chavez is considering selling USA made fighter planes to Iran. Might be that some cracks are starting to develop in the Mighty Empire.
Posted by RMJ from Churchill 4 Prez Hdqts on 05/16 at 12:21 PMHey, thanks for the mention on the front page and asking about me yesterday. I’ve just been caught up in stuff that’s been going on, and stuff that should be going on but isn’t enough yet. Work related and whatever. So, as I wrestle with the pointlessness of being vegan and all that, this one from the current issues comes to mind:

Posted by James from Hell's Kitchen on 05/16 at 12:44 PMHi RMJ.
Sad, but frighteningly accurate link, James.
Posted by Mickey Z. from Astoria on 05/16 at 01:07 PMNot sure if this link will work, but since we were on the topip of crazy animals today:

Posted by JOS from Chicago on 05/16 at 01:17 PMVideos, faugh...too long to load for my 2002-model computer.
What would be bait for a vegan...turnips?
Hi CatLady!
Scroodles of love to you all
Posted by Mudge from Austin on 05/16 at 01:35 PMBoy, you never who’ll turnip next here…

Posted by JOS from Chicago on 05/16 at 02:02 PMI clicked on the police state link. Pity, cause and I´ve always had romantic notions about the place since reading Ken Kesey and Raymond Carver in my teens and a friend from the bay area was telling me how much she liked Oregon, said in Portland once a cyclist was killed by a car at an intersection so they painted a mandala in the centre of it to slow cars down and it worked so well they did it on the rest. Like so:
P.S. although I live in a town crawling with tourists it is quite easy to avoid them completely here, especially since I rarely go to bars except to play or watch a friend play, though on Sunday I went to one on the seafront because a friend from Brighton Beach wanted to watch New Jersey play Miami in basketball. A horde of tourists on a sales conference trip from Kentucky came in. I´m pretty accustomed to just the company of my American friends who are all wise, dedicated, funky and peaceful, it was strange to meet this lot, they were all so big and friendly and horsey and confident and it was like they hadn´t really left their hometown at all, they were wonderful, actually it was quite a humbling exprience.

Posted by JOS from Chicago on 05/16 at 02:20 PMJOS...That is the worse news I have read in a long time...and besides that, you scooped me. I had missed that news story. I am speechless. Maybe now is the time for a plan of action!!!
Posted by RMJ from Churchill 4 Prez Hdqts on 05/16 at 02:41 PMYes it is, RMJ…
Here’s another scoop...CNN’s got the Pentagon 9/11 video just released on Judicial Watch:
This is supposed to be proof “once and for all” that a plane hit the Pentagon?
Posted by JOS from Chicago on 05/16 at 02:53 PMBig Country JOS is back to his old linkmaster self, I see. I could not make it through the Bono article. Genuinely nausea-inducing. As for Ward, I have no idea if the charges are true but if we wanna start attacking and firing folks for inaccuracies, let’s start with the Pentagon PR staff, the New York Times, and Fox News...and work from there.
I can’t wait to hear Owen’s response to the 9/11 video.
Posted by Mickey Z. from Astoria on 05/16 at 03:03 PMYep, the release of the tape of the “pentagon plane” won’t do much to satisfy those who believe in a conspiracy. At this late date and with current technology how many will believe that the tape is authentic?
Posted by RMJ from Churchill 4 Prez Hdqts on 05/16 at 03:13 PM‘Fat, Drunk and Stupid I and II’ - that wouldn’t be a reference to me, Mickey? Thanks for all those mystery links - no link from me at this moment.
And 22 comments already - WOW! A very warm welcome to you, Keir, Uncle Joe, Mudge (love the Murrow quote), JOS, Rosemarie and Owen (beautiful mandala there). Another sunny day is dawning in Daylesford.
Posted by Helga Fremlin from Daylesford, Australia on 05/16 at 03:55 PMQuality MySpace find. Initially, I figured Mickey Z incognito then I thought perhaps a provacateur (but the Tupac wallpaper probably throws that one out).
By the way, a very late thank you for the great books and haiku props.
Posted by ultrafknbd from Cali on 05/16 at 05:43 PMThis is getting very interesting. Yet another crack in the Mighty Empire. This just might be the beginning of the end....or the beginning of the beginning of a new era.
Posted by RMJ from Churchill 4 Prez Hdqts on 05/16 at 06:41 PMHey ultrafknbd...better Tupac than Deepak, right?
