Obama, Guantánamo, and US hypocrisy

  1. This article made my day, and this Gitmo rubbish is only the prologue of the Years of Hope(tm). (does no one remember that nonsense video produced for Bill Clinton?!).

Always fun to see the ‘Kos I Said So crowd on top of their game: “drop them off and say your (sic) sorry,” “we can’t pay reparations, there’s an economic crisis,” and the tiara of liberal nonsense, “it will take time to restore the ability to have fair trials.” I did make off with that Prattle Advisory graphic, however.

I am not a captive...or at least my brain isn’t. Most of the time.

Hope-filled salutations to all the Expendables.

  2. Prisons in the Middle East war zones are still operating.

I continue to firmly believe no Muslim terrorists were involved on 9/11.

Will John Walker Lindh ever get a commutation or a retrial?

  3. Thanks Mickey, another great article! (:

What’s up with these occasional puff pieces on online journal praising Obama? Most of the articles are spot on but they have these strange nothing articles on there too??

Loved the interview with David Korten this morning, only wish he would give up his “hope” that Obama will suddenly do the right things…

  4. Yes Obama is one creepy warmonger but I think this outdoes him:
    http://www.aintitcool.com/node/39866

Where do you start? Other than the obvious that we all know who should really be starring in a movie with that title. Um, any chance Stallone got a body like that by going vegan?

  5. Hello Expendables (including Stallone). Thanks for liking the article. I sometimes feel that if I wanna read an article I agree with, I have to write it myself.

James: Stallone looks amazing...not just for a man in his sixties but for anyone. Too bad he used the “Expendables” name. Do you think I could challenge him to a fight to settle ownership?

  6. Yes but only through a kick-boxing match.

Okay really do you think it’s all natural? Is he doing anything that’ll give him a heart attack in a year or two? I mean I think I have more body fat in my face than he has in his whole body. But I guess if he were on steroids he’d be even bigger.

Look up that movie though (I don’t feel like it right now). The cast is amazing, from Jet Li to just about every action star of this generation or any other.

  7. Or maybe you and Jensen could tag-team him and Arnold to a debate on foreign policy and environmental issues.

  8. I mentioned earlier. What has Barker Barack said about the u.s. occupying Cuba illegally ? Has he said anything about the Cuban Five being jailed illegally in the u.s.?

  9. Good article, Mickey. Looks like you are shaking things up on the Kos again.

Robert...Yes, John Walker Linde is a political prisoner - as are many in Gitmo. How many children are still locked up there - or have all of the kids been sent home?

    joe...and what about Noriega.

Hi Zen and James...hopefully the sun is shining down your way. The rays felt good today.

    Rich...I saw the interview, too.

HOW MANY CIVILIANS HAVE TO BE KILLED BY THE NEW ADMINISTRATION FOR THE LEFT TO FINALLY GET IT? So far we are killing more than two per day (that we know about).  Maybe this could be the official body count site. Looks like no one else is keeping track.

  10. CLOSE THE USA SCHOOL FOR TERRORISTS
(Peacemakers go to prison. USA Terrorists go to Ft Benning.)

SOA 6 Sentenced to Federal Prison for
Nonviolent Direct Action to Close the SOA/ WHINSEC
Today, on January 26, six human rights advocates appeared in a federal courthouse in Georgia. The “SOA 6,” ranging in age from 21 to 68, were found “guilty” of carrying the protest against the School of the Americas (SOA/WHINSEC) onto the Fort Benning military base. The six were among the thousands who gathered on November 22 and 23, 2008 outside the gates of Fort Benning, Georgia to demand a change in U.S. policy towards Latin America and the closure of the SOA/WHINSEC.

  11. As you show, RMJ, Obama will do nothing to change the mindset or the culture. A cosmetic gesture here or there, sure...but the ingrained insanity we call “normal” is not open to discussion.

  12. Interesting to read the comments on Stallone and diet ... wondering if it’s achievable without meat or whatever.

There’s nothing like a good example to dispel certain myths. One year here , in our Kung Fu class, a guy joined who was over from the UK teaching for a year.

He was the most ripped out guy we ever had in the class, his chest was literally two chiseled slabs of granite. Imagine everyone’s surprise when we got to know him better and found out he was a strict vegetarian.

Of course, people asked him about it, asking how he could do it. He was bemused at the question saying, “exercise and eating enough protein”.

Obviously, we need to bring back Pop-eye ... does anyone remember what Pop-eye eats to get that muscle protein’power-up’?

Posted by Andy from Shanghai  on  01/27  at  02:41 AM
  13. Not to nitpick exactly but the answer for the Kung Fu guy let alone Stallone (pardon rhyme) might have been factory-farmed why protein… hope not but I’ve not really seen many very ripped and massive vegans, and none who started out that way. Again, being vegan myself, I hope it doesn’t have to be the case. Not that being massively ripped is any ultimate goal, I’m just saying anyway.

Posted by James from Hell's Kitchen  on  01/27  at  02:51 AM
  14. Then again at least in Hollywood, Kung Fu stars don’t need to be ripped. Huge, maybe:

Not ashamed to say I enjoyed that movie a whole lot more than I expected to.

  15. Andy, 12, Popeye chained smoked a pipe and ate spinach for variety. I recommend both.

  16. There is an excellent DVD I own from Vegan Bodybuilding & Fitness called “Vegan Fitness Built Naturally” that is worth checking out. (: I don’t remember his name but a vegan bodybuilder spoke at the 2007 Boston Vegetarian Food Festival. While I personally am a swimmer and don’t feel the need to be “ripped”, I know many vegans who are. And popeye? He ate spinach! (;

Posted by RichG from Boston  on  01/27  at  08:32 AM
  17. Yeah, I’ve checked out Robert Cheeke’s site very often… he seems really cool and in great shape, but again not that this matter much in real life but just for the sake of whatever discussion, he doesn’t look very big as well as ripped.

Which is cool, there’s no need to have huge muscles, it would just be cool if someone could prove that a vegan could get as big as Arnold or Jay Cutler or Hulk Hogan or whoever the kids are trying to emulate these days. Yes I know that Popeye ate spinach and bonobos gorillas eat bananas all day. I guess that what might help the most would be if I stopped languishing in front of the internet feeling sorry for myself all day. Let alone maybe go to the gym.

  18. Stallone is a turd peanut.
    He uses Human growth hormone.
He got busted by Australian customs bringing in a bunch of it a few years back.

Why anyone on this site would even pay attention to such a rancid narcissist is beyond me.

Obama on the War of Terror +
Obama on Israel and Gaza massacre

= Change you can bereave in.

    Let us prey

  19. I like the actor.  Stallone taps a special groove.
(I don’t think I would have liked him quite as much if he were not as popular as he is here.)

I wouldn’t be surprised if Expendable was lifted by Hollywood as a hot meme with potential. At one time it had the connotation of someone to be eliminated in a secret operation-- today, obviously, we proudly use it like some African Americans who call themselves “niggers”.
We were to be eliminated-- but look! We are still here we are still stubborn, and there is no getting rid of us.

Saw how the corporates lifted and transfigured the word Green.  Happens all the time.

Fond here of the the idea that “God” is truly unnameable.

There is too much noise and trivia in our world. Despite so much static though-- some things do not change.

  22. Re: RMJ #10--Even as someone who pays attention to such things, your post is the first time I have ever heard of the School of the Americas. I looked it up and am appalled, but not surprised.

Also, Mickey, I had no idea the military was such an enormous polluter. Again, appalling, but not surprising.

Thank you both for contributing to my education and my activism toolchest!
