  1. hello all

i think on this one (although not on all the others you put on planet green) i can claim to be up to speed.

A strange thing about deforestation is that sometimes i get emails about the exit stage right thing asking me to encourage their “eco-tourism” to the amazon or wherever.

That is bad enough but i also get ones from people not even pretending to be ecotourism companies telling me to advertise their “go and see the animals holidays”

some people just don’t get it.

  2. I love Parkour and I’m a big fan of David Belle and also the Yamakasi team, but that’s mainly from the movie work.

David started this very interesting debate in the early days. People started to do a lot of ‘tricking’ and complex kung fu like moves. But David, an ex gymnast who is capable of doing any ‘move’ you might imagine, said that Parkour was about doing the most economical movement to overcome the obstacle.

It was about freedom, free running, where you use the art to be able to run and run without breaking the momentum.

You still have to be in good shape to do it but I think it’s strongest points are the philosophy and, as Mickey sez in the article, it’s simplicity ; you and and your immediate environment, no PCs, cars, Tvs etc.

  3. Hello Expednables...from chilly Astoria.

Michael: I agree. “Eco-tourism” is one of the best/worst examples of greenwashing.

Andy: I had a feeling you (and maybe a few others here) would be into parkour.

  4. So weird the synchronicity of this.  I was talking about parkour this very week on my food forum.  Check out this guy Damien Walters on youtube.  Unreal.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c4hxxoru7CM

  6. charles, that guy’s aerobic ability is absurtd but a lot of it is done in the gym.

For the danger factor and for doing it outside i think this guy in russia has to take the biscuit…

there is a little introduction and then the video starts proper at abotu 2 minutes…

big question about parkour… is it sport or art?

    i go for art

  7. I would argue that sport is an art.

  8. Charles… you might like this then....

“An artist in my eyes, is someone who can lighten up a dark room.
I have never and will never find difference between the pass from Pele to Carlos Alberto in the final of the World Cup in 1970 and the poetry of the young Rimbaud, who stretches cords from steeple to steeple and garlands from window to window. There is in each of these human manifestations an expression of beauty which touches us and gives us a feeling of eternity.”

Eric Cantona, former football (soccer) player.ù

The goal he was talking about was this....

  9. Hey Charles and Michael. I also had a feeling Charles would be into parkour. No offense, Michael, but I think of you more as a mountains and hiking guy.

  10. no offense taken. It is nice to watch but i would have broken knees, legs everything in minutes if i tried parkour.

Used to play football (soccer) to a pretty good standard though.

  11. When I was a teen, I lived in a very industrial area so my friends and I used to skip school and go “roof climbing” from factory to factory. I’m too protective of my older body to try it now but parkour would’ve fit my skill set back in the day.
