Some background on Cuba, Israel...and a certain Ms. Spears
Great article about Cuba, Mickey. I just forwarded it to friends who have a special interest in Cuba. In Maine one often sees signs that say, “Remember the Maine”. I always want to replace them with signs that say, “Remember Operation Mongoose”.

It seems that every neighbour of the US must remain ever thoughtful of the manifest destiny. (You never know when your Prime Minister might decide it’s a good idea after all!)
Youngfox and I watched a ‘Nature of Things’ which was all about Cuba’s ‘special period’...if only humans would do such things without having our backs agains the wall. I would like to have a community farm right here, and one near your place, MZ, and one for you RMJ.
“Why” not?
Posted by Amelopsis from Canadia on 08/07 at 08:57 AMHello RMJ, Empress, all Expendables, and anyone else in the vicinity. Cooler here today but still muggy. This summer has sucked.
Anyway, I just came across this useful article (via Josh Frank) on the Middle East:
http://tinyurl.com/p6284Posted by Mickey Z. from Astoria on 08/07 at 09:30 AMA poignant article.
A realistic understanding of the conflict, therefore, is one that recognizes that the crux is not in this or that incident or policy, but in Israel’s foundational and per- sistent refusal to recognize the humanity of its Palestinian victims. Neither Hizbullah nor Hamas are driven by a desire to “wipe out Jews,” as is so often claimed, but by a fundamental sense of injustice that they will not allow to be forgottenCaptcha: “land”
Posted by Amelopsis from Canadia on 08/07 at 09:54 AMEek! That is one freaky woman. The worst bit is I don’t think she was high or drunk at the taping of that.

Posted by Luna_C from The Delta on 08/07 at 10:26 AMSpeaking of Cuba…
I can see how Cuba was militarily relevant to US interests back in the 60’s. These days it seems like the US interests in Cuba is more about having an unresolved thorn in there side then anything militarily strategic.
A string of Cuba related articles released over the weekend. The second one kills me because from what I understand most Cubans are pretty happy with how Castro has been running things.

Am I mistaken Mickey? Back during the Hurricane Katrina debacle didn’t you post an article about how Cuba weathered it’s own hurricanes with no loss of life? There emergency preparedness took measures to insure everyone including the elderly and even house pets where kept safe.Peace and Love,
LCCaptcha says; Luna should of had this in the “body” of his previous post.

Posted by TM from on 08/07 at 11:56 AMMZ, you’re just jealous of Britney Spears because whenever you dress up as a schoolgirl you don’t get the same reaction! Leave it to time, the great healer, to make it easier on you, my friend.
Not sue how Cuba will lend itself to the WOT smokescreens, but who knows.
Yesterday finished reading Greg ("The Best Democracy Money Can Buy") Palast’s new one, “Armed Madhouse.” Strongly recommended, and the parts of OPEC are especially eye opening.
Hope all the expendables are having a ball of it.
Posted by Chris Wood from Jersey on 08/07 at 01:16 PMJust read Saturday’s post re your cousin - so sorry! Please accept my condolences. Such a terrible thing.
Posted by Chris Wood from Jersey on 08/07 at 01:20 PMChris: Thanks for your kind words. This has been a tough week for my family.
TM: I actually have an audio tape of Chomsky vs. Buckley. Noam left him with no choice but to the threaten a “sock in the jaw.”
Luna: Yes, Cuba traditionally handles hurricane season better than surroundimg nations.
As for Britney, the reality remains: At least half the humans I’ve met in my lifetime look and sound much like she does on that video.
Posted by Mickey Z. from Astoria on 08/07 at 02:12 PMHey everyone,
I had a net-less weekend, so like Chris I only just read about your cousin. I’m sorry man.Armed Madhouse is excellent, fact-stuffed and abrasive as ever.
Luna, from memory - weren’t there a series of hurricanes the previous season that ripped across the Caribbean, killing a handful of people in prepared countries like Cuba, Jamaica, the Bahamas...and killing thousands in Haiti, where the people responsible for hurricane defence had just been murdered or forced in to hiding? Some more casualties of empire…
