  1. I just watched Rocky last night...with my mom.

    Excellent post.

  2. I want to read Disposable People.

  3. By the way, what could Rocky do to fight a massive sinkhole caused by the oil industry that’s threatening to swallow a city?

  4. Thanks, JOS.

Read it, Charles. It’s yet another wake-up call.

  5. Sorry, Charles, I tried to reply to your other comment and my connection just wigged out. What would Rocky do? (WWRD?)

I’m guessing it’d start with the eye of the tiger…

  6. What those victimized children in Thailand need is a hope candidate or some symbolic pieces of legislation.

Give It Back To Mexico Dept: How to fill the resulting sinkhole near Carlsbad is one question, but pumping massive amounts of fresh water deep underground...in a desert?! It would have been easier and faster to give out hammers so people could smash themselves in the head a few dozen times.

I haven’t seen Rocky Balboa yet, nor The Wrestler, but have seen The Men Who Stare At Goats. It can’t withstand the slightest examination, but Clooney and Bridges make for some good laughs.

  7. Sorry Zen, I totally disagree. What the victimized everywhere is not a hope candidate, it’s a change candidate. And they don’t need symbolic pieces of legislation but symbolic gestures of charity. Sheesh! At least there’s diversity of opinion around here.

I liked the poem and the response it elicited, Mickey.

  8. I know there’s at least one thing we agree on: Yes We Can.

  9. Yes, weaken?

  10. ‘Being able to sleep well should be impossible while such depravity continues.’ Too true, Mickey!  And of course all those men who frequent brothels and think it is a good idea to introduce their sons into sex in those establishments bear at least half of the blame.  Supply and demand ..

Hi, JOS, Charles, Zen Prole and keir from a hot Daylesford - 90F again today.  Off to Melbourne shortly to do the last of my X-mas shopping, so take good care of yourselves.  Back on Saturday/Sunday.

    Ciao,
    Helga

  11. Hey Mickey, nice piece on DV about the ‘ethical butcher’ and animal liberation and the Left. Did you catch the recent attack on ‘animal rights’ in Socialist Worker? It’s here: http://socialistworker.org/2009/10/26/socialism-and-animal-rights

  12. Hi Helga.

Welcome, Wookie. I had not seen that article but it’s par for the course, huh? I’ll post my article here tomorrow.

  13. The tragic thing is that there are still so many people, one year on, who are in a tail spin of denial ... “it’s hard for him” ... “he’s doing his best” etc

I’m telling you, it’s one year on now and a bunch of people on some other boards, and in life, owe me a big apology.

This was the only sane space during the elections.

The Guardian UK even had a sombre front page story “Obama closes Guantanamo” ... never mind the fact of all the other torture camps and the 400+ bases on foreign soil - it’s a year on ... is it closed?

Or, are they hiring for McD’s there.

  14. #7 on Wry: Duly noted, keir. Hope and change, meaningless legislative and charitable acts. Toss in some angels and pinheads and it’s the Clueless Trifecta, which segues into #13…

Andy, apologies from squishy liberals would have the same consistency. Are you certain you want that?

Chomsky recently commented that Obama’s mission was to repair the tarnished image of America’s rulers. Feudalism, here we come.

  15. @ Zen
    You’re right.

    @ Mickey
Loved the piece on DV and what’s with some of the comments - is it the new Daily Kos there? Is nowhere sane.

  16. A new post is now up: The piece that Andy mentions (but not the DV link).
