Who's coming to my two NYC events?
Hmm...awfully quiet again. So, who’s coming to my talks?
Posted by Mickey Z. from Astoria on 03/20 at 06:06 PMI am coming, Mickey - but only to your blog for the time being! I so wish I could be at both talks, but unfortunately our meeting has to wait until the first week of May. Just let me know whether there are any ‘events’ planned in that week, and I’ll drop everything to be there.
Off to Melbourne again - back in 3 days, so take care until then, and have a good rest of the weekend.
All best,
HelgaPosted by Helga from Daylesford, Australia on 03/20 at 06:14 PMThanks, Helga. Enjoy your getaway.
Posted by Mickey Z. from Astoria on 03/20 at 07:20 PMMickey...I wish that I could be there. You are an inspiration to all who hear you.
Hi Helga and all…
I am catching up after being off the computer for a few days.
Thanks JOS for remembering the March 20 anniversary - just a minor correction. TV news people make this mistake all the time. This was the 7th anniversary of Shock and Awe. The war started in 1991 and we have been bombing there ever since - one of the longest wars in history. This fact is important because it disproves any arguement that the war was justified because of 9/11. In fact 9/11 was Blowback because we had been bombing for so many years. Apologies for being such a know-it-all but since this was the anniversary of my arrest it is easy for me to remember.

JOS, About health care ...38 State Attorneys General have already said that they will sue the federal government on Constitutional grounds if the Bill passes. They say that the individual mandate is unconstitutional.
Posted by RMJ from Ward Churchill 4 Prez Hdqts on 03/21 at 11:00 AMThanks, RMJ. Just got home from the Left Forum and it went well. The room was packed.
Btw, I just added another link to the main post.
Posted by Mickey Z. from Astoria on 03/21 at 02:59 PMHey Mickey
Glad to hear the Left Forum was busy.
Good points everyone about the bombing of Iraq. During the years in between the two wars, we dropped bombs on Iraq every day. Not to mention the sanctions that punished the general population to the tune of 500 000 kids. It was Albright who said ‘we think it’s worth it.’
There’s a quote on that, Raj Patel (talking about the sanctions) “You can make a bomb out of anything, the ones made of paper hurt the most.”
Here’s the Global Issues page on the Iraq mid-war bombings.
Posted by Andy from Shanghai on 03/22 at 01:03 AMTo be most accurate, the war started on August 6, 1990: the day the UN/US imposed the murderous sanctions upon the people of Iraq. In about 4 months, we should be marking the 20th anniversary.
Posted by Mickey Z. from Astoria on 03/22 at 04:56 AMMickey, Congratulations on another success.
Great comment, Andy. Yes, about the ‘paper’ weapons. Reminds me of something I say a lot - “The gavel is more dangerous than the gun.”
The insurance companies won a big one last night. Looks like the 8 lobbyists per each member of Congress paid off.
Posted by RMJ from Ward Churchill 4 Prez Hdqts on 03/22 at 11:37 AMThanks, RMJ. Hedges on the health care insanity:

Okay, I know it’s raining in NYC but can anyone tell me right now that they’ll be at Barnes & Noble tonight?
Posted by Mickey Z. from Astoria on 03/22 at 01:52 PMAnd I thought the war started on 1776???
Posted by joe of maine from on 03/22 at 02:47 PMThanks, Joe. You just made me laugh out loud.
Posted by Mickey Z. from Astoria on 03/22 at 02:59 PMHi all, The Iraqi sanctions is the example I use to show what sort of a democracy we have. are we a functioning democracy, and people on-the-whole supported genocide...or are we not very democratic. The best counter-argument I got (saying that we are a functioning democracy) was that the public didn’t know it was happening...true...but surely a sign of a not-so-great “democracy”.
Joe #11, you Yanks and your history, we Brits have been waging wars for donkeys years. The French were our favourites.
Hope the talk goes well Mickey!!!!
Posted by Rick (the Cartoonist) from England on 03/22 at 05:36 PMWe had a great time at B&N. Lively crowd and a nice sense of community. I’ll try to post more details and photos by tonight. For now, I’ll just say thanks to all who made to the talk.
Posted by Mickey Z. from Astoria on 03/23 at 04:21 AMA new post is up. Event photos will follow by tonight. See you there.
