Hats off to Boston (for now)

  1. I am in a complete state of shock.  I am actualy rethinking my views on watching anymore Yankee baseball.  I believe I wasted a good 30 hours this week/series alone, and all I’ve done is annoy the crap out of my wife with my mood swings.

  2. My thoughts exactly, James. For years, I was a sports nut...then I weaned myself off the addiction and barely paid attention. Recently, I’ve allowed myself to get hooked again and I’m feeling pretty dumb right about now.

  3. getting married to a non-sports woman helped ween me off to the point where I was beginning to not even miss it anymore.  this series reminded why I am better off not watching.

I was always annoyed somewhat by Chomsky’s complete lack of interest in anything “entertaining,” though I knew he was right in a big way.  Still, it almost seems inhuman to not watch a movie or a game every now and then, right?

There’s an interesting topic...can someone like Chomsky who by his own admission never watches a movie unless forced and almost certainly doesn’t watch much television, especially not sports (all things I agree with, but have yet to put into practice in my life completely)...can someone like that connect to people on a massive scale, is there something missing there?  Does it matter?  I don’t know, but it is something to think about.

  4. Here’s one from the “I wish I thought of it” file: My buddy Ken Coughlin reminds me that if Houston wins tonight, we’ll have a Texas/Massachusetts match-up to mirror the election.
