Herman Hesse says:
Herman Hesse will always have the distinction of being the one author who turned my head around… when I was required to read his work, Siddhartha, by my high school English teacher. Mr. Greenhouse didn’t think that I “got it” the first go-round, so I was required to reread the book another two times, before I realized what he meant by “getting it.” Thanks to Mr. Greenhouse and Mr. Hesse, my life has been a most atypical journey ever since.

It’s not the system (public versus private) that really matters, but the teachers that can be found in both. I was fortunate to have a couple of teachers in the public system who challeneged me to think critically and reflectively. I look for the same kind of teachers now for my daughter, regardless of the system. There is a Socrates hiding in every system, if you care to look for him or her.

Thanks for that, NR.
