Pharmaceuticals: Just Say No
Mickey, I just read your piece on Znet. Thank you for another good one. Things will get even worse if the scam of Tort Reform goes through. It is amazing how so many have such a misconception about law suits and the court system. Most cases of malpractice never even make to the court system. Medical care has increased in cost, not because of law suits, but because of the desire for increased insurance company profits. It is Wall Street’s control of the Medical Industry that is the problem. I know that you know all of this, Mickey, but how do we get the word out to those who are calling for Tort Reform?
Posted by rosemarie jackowski on from 12/22 at 07:52 PMBoy, do I wish I had a good answer for that ending question. It’s a recurring pattern. They fabricate a crisis (too many malpractice suits or Social Security going bankrupt) and the pubilc lines up behind whatever solution is presented...and you can be certain that solution will make the rich richer. The truth is available on alternative websites...but not enough folks visit such sites.
Posted by Mickey Z. on from 12/22 at 07:57 PMI read a lot of liberal and progressive weblogs, serious news sites and print editions of the mainstream media. Lots of people know full well when something is all shuck. What happens is the influential liberals whose gig is backing the Democrats rally everyone to defeat something awful, then gradually introduce reasonable compromises and before you know it bipartisanship ensures a major screwing. By reasonable compromise and bipartisanship (is that really a word?) I mean collusion to steal and kill.
It’s a disturbing process to watch. The “loony left” is immediately denounced as excessive, unrealistic and immature. Then the judas goats throw up their hands when the inevitable disasters take place and revile their critics for causing them to lose.
I’ve fallen for their trick many times. The pressure to go along is incredible when you have lots of friends who have also been suckered.
Posted by harry on from upstate 12/23 at 12:51 AMWell put, Harry. It’s almost as if we have to literally demand the impossible...as a starting point. By doing so, a minor compromise here or there still results in radical change.
Posted by Mickey Z. on from 12/23 at 08:39 AMMickey, you say, “demand the impossible, as a starting point...”. I agree. My approach is, if you want a puppy, you have to ask for a pony. We should be calling for a Single Payer Medical Plan for everyone on the planet, paid for out of the U.S. Military Offense Budget. That’s a good start.
Posted by rosemarie jackowski on from 12/23 at 09:26 AMIt’s almost good cop/bad cop...in a weird way. You have someone like Michael McMoore willing to settle for crumbs...but he can be somewhat balanced out if enough of us are demanding the whole enchilada. So, if we end up with half an enchilada for now...it’s much better than what so-called liberals are begging for. From there, we can work toward getting a full meal...and more.
Does that make sense?
Posted by Mickey Z. on from 12/23 at 11:56 AMMakes sense to me!
Posted by rosemarie jackowski on from 12/23 at 12:48 PMHow did demanding what you deserve become translated into demanding the impossible? You won’t get what you deserve until you act like you deserve it. It never ceases to amaze me how many people are willing to settle for less than what they really feel that they deserve. It’s time that we start acting like we deserve what we deserve, instead of being too willing to settle for less.
