Urge Your Senators to Oppose Gonzales

  1. I’ve been thinking about exerting influence over politicians. The way things have been gerrymandered, there are very few that are obliged to respond to the electorate. The smart thing is to make the 5% or so who do have to respond aware that bad behavior will cost them their office. Some of them, obviously, come from communities supportive of torture. Those that do not need to be forced into using every trick in the book to at least undermine bad policy.

The general strike isn’t happening any time soon and bailing with a tea cup is better than not bailing at all (maybe).

  2. You make good points, Harry...but sometimes I think the “tea cup” approach merely makes the system stronger but presenting the illusion of fairness.

  3. There is a catch 22 to it. I’ve heard many times that a modest victory proves the system works. Well, yes it does. It’s classic tool, and the use of that is proudly touted by the people doing it. Mention that to people and they start muttering about foil hats.
