The Latest Line on the Patriots
i have formed a very clear conception of patriotism. i have generally found it thust into the forground by some fellow who has something to hide in the background.i have seen a great deal of patriotism;and i havegenerally found it the last refuge of the scoundrel
. c.k.chestertonPosted by michael conner on from rockland county new york 01/31 at 09:23 AMAs usual, Mickey, you have given me plenty of food for thought. The quote “Patriotism is your conviction that this country is superior to all other countries because you were born in it.” really grabs me. In my own post on this topic, I mentioned my patriotism several times...to the point that I sounded like Bush and his liberty/freedom/liberty talks
I think part of my desire to attach myself to the patriot label is my conditioning...and the opposite label “unpatriotic” installs a certain fear in me.
Nevertheless, wrong is wrong and Truth is the answer.

Thanks, MickeyPosted by deb on from Seattle 01/31 at 05:05 PMAnd thank you, Deb.
The connotation of the term “patriot” is troublesome in today’s usage. That’s precisely why my next book will be a desperate attempt to reclaim it. More verrrrrry soon that…

Posted by deb on from Seattle 02/01 at 12:09 AMYeah, it’s a word that triggers a really immediate and negative response on the Left. I’m not sure if that’s something that should change...but I hope my book can offer some snippets of American history from which a dissident could draw inspiration.
