They are lying about Social Security and global warming

  1. Hello, Mickey and All:

My comment relates to the global climate crisis. Even amongst people who ~do~ understand the critical nature of this problem, many seem to miss an essential answer: the vegan diet.

January saw a discussion here about some Veg News contributors and others sinking into the age-old mire of campaigning for animal welfare standards in the meat industry.

Meat industry welfare regulations are, of course, limited to addressing husbandry issues and cost-benefit analyses. But the waste involved in welfare campaigns doesn’t stop there. Today, such campaigns are practically equivalent to planning the arrangement of the Titanic’s deck chairs.

Due to the effects of methane, nitrous oxide, and fossil fuel use, animal-based agriculture is a key contributor to climate change. And if activists do not address that issue head-on, and do it now, it will very likely be too late.

Another recent article, closely related to the one Mickey has cited here, explains that “senior climate researchers, who said the amount of future warming to which the world is firmly
committed, because of greenhouse gases that have already been put into the atmosphere, will be enough to threaten the survival of many ecosystems and wildlife species such as polar bears and penguins.”

  2. Global warming skeptics focus more on the power equation than the science. To most of them, support for remedies equals support for Democrats. Facts and figures mean little in an emotional argument. I’m sure we’ve all known someone who would rather die then be wrong about something. The lack of immediately perceivable consequence clinches it.

In order to get something done about this, that binary “if not Republican, then Democrat” mindset has got to be broken down.
