Picking out the hayseeds
Mickey, lovely post, thanks and funny you mention Green Wood Cemetary. My maternal grandmother and her family are buried there. I remember as a kid/teen, when we lived in NYC, my mom and my brothers and I would go to rake leaves and bring a picnic lunch to the plot; Green Wood has wonderful views of lower Manhattan.

has wonderful photos of Green Wood in his photo archives on that site.Anyway, to remark on your hayseed metaphor…
“Hayseeds” I’ve found are this site, Counterpunch, Direland, This Modern World, truthout, Undernews.
I might have mentioned to you or in earlier comments here that I try to live and vote Green (and campaigned for my friend in Burlington for his candidacy in the justice of the peace race).
I realise it will take a lot of patience to let people know there are alternatives to the current political duopoly, and indeed I get a bit down about people who are stuck in that wedge. When I was campaigning in downtown Burlington last fall, I stopped by Radio Deli to buy a drink. As I was paying at the till, the owner noticed I was wearing my friend’s campaign sticker and asked for my friend’s flyer. He told me he could support Owen’s candidacy because he (the owner) had values in common with Greens. What’s so hilarious is that this man said he is a Republican (moved up to Vermont from Brooklyn, as it happens). During block walks, in cold and rainy weather, I’d much rather have been inside drinking chamomile tea, but it was the kind of positive interaction I had at the Radio Deli that kept me going.Posted by Jay Vos on from Burlington, VT, USA 02/10 at 09:15 AMExcellent post, Jay...thanks. And your friend’s photos are amazing.
Posted by Mickey Z. on from 02/10 at 09:58 AMMy hayseed today is Gannon. I would love to see “Gannongate” explored in more depth. Although I’m picking thru Whitehouse shit on my own...many are better seed pickers than I. For the Gannon topic, I like this site:

Happy picking!
