"got it all wrong"
Very disturbing Mickey. The sad fantasies and sorry conditions contrasted with Frank’s one flash of real insight, “got it all wrong”, make it painful. It’s even more painful when he tries to be nice to the little girl. All that fumbling at trying to be human.
I don’t think you could have written it if you didn’t care deeply.

“Got it all wrong” is excellent. “Always leave them wanting more”, someone once told me, and it has proven to be one of the few useful tips I’ve ever received about the creation process. I always loved those early Ramones shows. 20 minutes, no encore, and gone. Great. Your story is like that. Short, concise, perfectly plotted. Characters made real entirely through dialogue. Minimal without becoming pretentious minimalism.A Cappella Books is up and running in our new Moreland Avenue location. Anyone who happens to be in Atlanta, Little Five Points neighborhood please come visit.
