TV or not TV

Posted by Mickey Z on 04/24 at 08:06 AM
  1. I didn’t fully appreciate the harmful potential of television until I realized I was watching it in order to stop thinking. In that state, I would assimilate the images and narratives of people who had only the smallest grasp of what self-interest is all about. There’s no need to work hard at propagandizing when millions are eager to do most of the work for you.

I can spot the slick, manufactured talking points in the speech and writing of people glued to the box. If I spot too many, I know my fumblings towards what is largely true won’t get anywhere with them.

  2. For what I’ve chosen to do, the TV essentially stands as “the competition” and it’s no contest.

  4. Best invention of the 21st century (thusfar).  I’ve been able to silence many TV’s in local restaurants and bars with it, and what I find intriguing (but not suprising) is that no one EVER seems to notice or care.  If I can help one person avoid receiving TV commercials subliminally while they eat/drink, then I can sleep soundly knowing that, on some scale, I’ve made the world a better place for humanity.
