Judi Bari says:
I very much agree, MickeyZ. Yet, when I ponder “our” situation, I’m often reminded of scenes from one of those nature shows, common on cable or satellite. The scene I’m thinking of is one where a few hundred Zebra, say, are being stalked by five or six female lions. This enormous herd of fast, big, tough animals is driven to frenzied running about because of their collective fear of the great cats. Yet, if they were just a bit brighter, and a few bits better organized, they could quickly and relatively easily stomp and kick the lions into the ground without losing many - or, perhaps even any, of their own. But, fear and dumb and poor organization overwhelms them. The cats move in and take a couple of little ones, or a couple of elderly, infirm Zebra, while the herd runs off toward safety - temporary safety. Perhaps there’s a lesson there, somewhere… Maybe we’re back to yesterday’s discussion, eh? -joe
Posted by joe carpenter on from grants pass, oregon 04/27 at 10:16 AMJoe from Oregon hits it right on the head with his example - also a perfect example of why Chomsky said that the powers that be view the rest of us as “the bewildered herd.” Until more of us are able to act independently, and break out of the herd mentality, those “good shepherds” with the power and money (both those things usually stolen or at least acquired less then honestly) will be able to control our actions and guide us wherever they wish. And there are so few of them, and so many in the herd. It is only through our cooperation - and permission - that the viscious cannibals maintain their control. Time to start finding ways to educate the herd about how to take that power back. Oh! But it will have to wait till later - there is an episode of “Fear Factor,” that I have only seen twice before, on TV tonight…
Posted by Rev Joe on from 04/27 at 10:40 AMTaking a lesson from the radical right, laying the groundwork now in order to be prepared for the future. The so-called Patriot Act was written well beforehand and slapped on the table at the opportune moment. It’s but one example.
There is a difference, however. The mass and breadth of the neocon’s lustful power grab, the scope of its reach, indicates [if history is an accurate witness] that the whole stack of cards they’ve established will liely topple under its own weight.
The rest of us have to be ready to provide a more humane alternative to the chaos that gets passed off for leadership now when that toppling occurs.

Awake from your slumber; hit ‘em with the numbers.
