The Birthday Weekend™
Any weekend with a Harold Lloyd film is already a smash hit, in my book. The rest is icing on the cake.
Have a happy birthday, Mickey.Posted by Gregory Elich on from Ohio 04/30 at 11:13 AMHappy Birthday!!! Sounds like you’re having a good time. If you go to the Museum of Sex, ask for a poetry book. I just went, and found it a bit a let down, but isn’t that inevitable? (he rolled over and fell asleep)
Did I ever tell you how I lucky I am to have met you? You really helped me get started with my writing and editing work. You are one of those few people who improves the life of everyone they’re in contact with, I just thought I’d let you know that. Also, have a birthday cake with a candle! There’s nothing like melted candlewax on cake.
Posted by Christine Hamm on from nimby 04/30 at 11:24 AMCHRONIA POLLA, Mickey!
Posted by Peter Dimopoulos on from Montreal, Canada 04/30 at 11:37 AMWow...that was more than I bargained for. Greg, thanks for the note. I’ll tell Harol you said hello...and thanks for taking time to reply on the Zimbabwe thread.
Thanks, Peter, does that mean “happy birthday” in Greek? (As a lifetime Astorian, I should know that, huh?).
Chris...I’m touched by your kind words. It was strange serendipity that we met that night at the Sofa reading but it’s not strange at all that we have become friends. Thank you.
Posted by Mickey Z. on from Astoria 04/30 at 11:56 AMHi Mickey! A great big HAPPY BIRTHDAY to you.
Yes, you are an inspiration. Many thanks for recommending “The Murdering of My Years” to me. I’ll get out of this cubicle yet… I’m well on my way, in fact. You have been very supportive.
Have a great day (yummmy restaurant menu)
Posted by deb on from Seattle-ish 04/30 at 12:01 PMMickey-A very Happy Birthday to you! Will be in touch soon, hope you have a great weekend.
Posted by alex on from 04/30 at 12:53 PMHappy Birthday, MickeyZ!
Enjoy them while you can -
at some point they become harbingers of more somber stuff, and the icing’s no longer quite so sweet…Christine is right - you’ve got immense energy and you pass it around liberally (radically?! - well, definately NOT conservatively!), to the benifit of all… Thanks from here, too.
-joePS - where the hell do you get all these amazing photographs of album covers and book covers and movie posters and the like? Wonderful, wonderful stuff!
Posted by joe on from grants pass 04/30 at 05:54 PMThanks again, one and all.
Posted by Mickey Z. on from Astoria 04/30 at 10:02 PMHappy Belated Birthday, Mickey! So when are you born exactly (and no, I do not want to know the year)?
That Museum of Sex sounds interesting and I LOVE live piano players at films.
Hope you had lots of fun!Posted by Helga Fremlin on from Daylesford, Australia 05/02 at 10:39 PMThanks, Helga. My b’day was April 30.
Posted by Mickey Z. on from Astoria 05/03 at 04:47 AMHappy Belated Birthday from me too, Mickey. Not to argue with you on this special occasion, but over the years my faith in Angelica’s has been shaken. I can’t resist the tofu buffalo wings at Kate’s on Avenue B, and my preference for Caravan of Dreams’ tempeh over Angelica’s was one contributing factor to the end of a relationship of several years ago. Plus Angelica’s portions seem to get stingier each time I make it there.
And oh, I have a new girlfriend, so what that means for you is my need to order more autographed books from you to impress her with… My romantic gain is your financial one!
Posted by James on from NYC 05/03 at 02:13 PMJames, I ran into Ken on Saturday and it turns out we share a b’day. We met at the Film Forum after viewing a Harold Lloyd flick.
As for my love potion books, I’ve got plenty for you to order.
