  1. Great article, MickeyZ.

Even fifty years earlier, in the Philipines, we were struggling to “transcend appeasement”:  “You never heard of any disturbances in Northern Luzon,
because there isn’t anyone there to rebel.  That country was marched over and cleared out.  The good lord in heaven only knows the number of Filipinos that were put under the ground; our soldiers took no prisioners; they kept no records; they simply swept through the country and wherever or however they could get hold of a Filipino - they killed him.” - A Republican Congressman giving an eyewitness report of the US invasion of Philippines, 1899.

And, when we fast forward one hundred + years, we can read about the massacre in Falluga… There are even some reports of the use of chemical weapons.  And, of course, there’s the ubiquitous depleted uranium projectiles of various types and sizes.  And B52 bombings of this urban area filled primarily with innocents…

Who are we, MickeyZ?  Who the #### are we?

  2. We are the inhabitants of god’s country. We are the accomplices, the co-consprators, the guilty.

This older piece of mine has more on the Phiippines:

  3. “I AM BECOME DEATH, DESTROYER OF WORLDS”...These are the words that came to mind after reading Joe’s question, “Who are we?” The rest of the world knows who we are. That’s why they hate us.

  4. Every time I hear someone say that the brave military is fighting to preserve our way of life, I think: it’s our way of life that’s the problem.

  5. A perfect quote, Rosemarie… It’s murder on a sort of “biblical” scale…

And, Mickey - another great article.  As I’m sure you’re aware, the US has pretty much decided to consider lawsuits, and domestic and international appeals to rule of law, against the US, as simply another type of “terrorism” with which our poor government will have to deal.  Legal accusations will be thought of, more or less, as acts of war -and we’ll *have to* respond accordingly.

(Recall that story about the thought processes of a schizophrenic???)

  6. The legal system, the medical care delivery system, the educational system, and most other systems in the U.S. are failing. Infant motality rates in the U.S. are now worse than they are in Cuba and most other so-called advanced countries. One of my best friends just re-located to Costa Rica partially because of the Medical system there.  If the U.S. is ever going to change, maybe it will take outside intervention. The people in this country are just too mis-informed and many are becoming over-whelmed with life. Survival, economoic and otherwise is getting to be a major problem for many people.
