Only Republicans Lie?

Posted by Mickey Z on 06/03 at 05:27 AM
  1. I think the major media is nearly schizo. On one hand, most of the people owning and running it would be much happier if Democrats ran the country. The little rules which benefit them would be enforced. The big issues would be quietly swept under the rug. On the other hand, there’s a major business opportunity in sucking up to Republicans. Complete license and government support for magical thinking makes the perception management business easier in many ways.

In neither circumstance will major premises be questioned. Power gets handed back and forth smoothly, as intended and desired, because a real tragedy to them consists of members of their narrow-minded, mean-spirited tribe getting hurt.

  2. I’ll always remember reading something years ago that Chomsky wrote about the Watergate “scandal.” He said that it really wasn’t such a big deal… and it shocked me, then it sunk in how right he was.

I grew up thinking it was some horrible, unique occurence. Nixon was some evil Republican.

Like you say above, what the hell does a break in at the Democrat headquarters and cover up compare to thousands upon thousands dead in Viet Nam.

  4. In the 80s, I worked at a ritzy gym and sometimes trained Carl Bernstein. He’d walk up to me and ask if I had time to work him out...and I’d say: “Only if you tell me who Deep Throat is.” He laughed every time and then would spend our entire training session scoping out women.

  5. Hi MickeyZ - good news about your Mom, hope it continues!
I’ve recently been thinking about the sham of Dem Dems. Let’s see:
Internment...? Imprisionment of innocent Japanese Americans during - and after! - WWII. Terror bombings of civilians in Germany + Japan - killed more than a million, deliberately, for NO good strategic reason. Fire Bombing of Dresden, Leipzig, Berlin, Tokyo and 60 - 100 Japanese cities. (Napalm burns at 5000 degrees + sticks to people.)
Two nuclear weapons dropped on innocents in Japan. After the bombing of Hiroshims, Truman said: “This is the greatest day in history!” Then he told the American people that Hiroshima was a military base! Fewer people died in Nagasaki so he and his military goon-gangs were disappointed! Many people believe we knew the Japanese were VERY close to surrender already, and that the nukes were - just revenge. (Against women and children and old folks… Ah, those elites, gotta love `em!) The American Democratic Party - the only political party in the world to use nuclear weapons on human beings.
Truman, all by himself, declared War on Korea and, a few months later, Honest Harry set up the Military Assistance Advisory Group - Indochina. The true beginning of the Vietnam War… Harry wasn’t content with WWII, Nukes, Terror Bombings and a huge battle in Korea, so let’s get into the Nam! Harry also helped create the CIA, a nightmare a minute for the general populations of the world for over 50 years!
Dem Dems sponsored the invasion and ongoing torment + strangulation of Cuba and a variety of nations in Central America and Asia… Kennedy sent some Napalm with the CIA pilots who flew in Bay of Pigs. Expanded our involvement in Nam.
Vietnam: 300 tons of bombs for every man, woman and child in Vietnam. Plastic anti-personel bombs used so that the debris blasted into people couldn’t be seen with x-rays. Our philosophy was that a badly injured Vietnamese was much more disruptive than a dead one - requiring people, money, supplies and medicine, whereas a dead one was just dead…
Millions of gallons of Agent Orange, defoliant and chromosome buster, a chemical and biological weapon, dumped on people, domestic animals and crops, as well as forests. Still causing horrible birth defects as we speak. Lots more napalm in Vietnam, too. If the rain of fire didn’t burn people alive, the fire sucked the oxygen from the air, asphixiating people and animals anywhere in the blast zone. Huge, murderous economic and political sanctions on Viet Nam after they threw us out.
Carter hammered at Iran, created the Trilateral Commission and hired Zbig! - whos GRAND CHESSBOARD was surely a model for the neocon Project for a New American Century!
Clinton tried to bomb Yugoslavia into the stone age based on bullshit charges about genocide. Michael Parenti sums it up, beautifully but horribly in his book: To Kill A Nation.

Yup, Dem Dems. What a wonderful alternative to Thugs, Inc… I’m surprised Bush doesn’t try to hire the Dems as advisors. They’re probably responsible for more death and horror in the last hundred years than the Repubs - and all the while playing the tune that they’re the party of the poor, the party of hope, the party of peace!!! -joe

  6. Yeah, if only Kerry had won. We’d all be dwelling in peace and honesty by now.

  7. “When was the nation NOT mired in incompetence, duplicity, bad faith, and outright lies from the very top of the government?”

If citizens were to read more history than what they do to get through basic public education, they would realize it is not hard to answer that with a resounding never. The granting and expansion of suffrage neatly parallels the increased controll over the pool of candidates as exerted by teh party structure. The change in allocation of electoral votes, starting in the 1830s from a per district allocation to block by state, was the result of the two party collusion to prevent third party candidates from having any chance of gaining a Presidency.

Since then, the parties have worked more in mutual interest than in that of the supposedly represented. Look into the history of the establishment of publically funded education to find the roots of how the message is controlled. Media is no different, just another means by which a very pretty veil has been drawn across the reality of our existence.

Ultimately we must come to realize there is no democratic representative government, and really never has been. There is only distraction in its various forms.

  10. Ya, so presidents represent the beat-out condom on the nuts and bolts of ‘murka--repression and business--and the firmament above jams away--anything to keep the messes below below, but still slopping firmly against their walls--just not over them. **Buzzsaw** is a book containing a succinct description of the natsec state’s iron fist, and the myriad of laws and rulings permitting gross malignancy on that slut [male/female](how many pimps has s/he had?) demos. So what we limpoids grip is trash thrown down and tho we might have solidified the trash and made some attempts to ascend to a finer sense, we’re lookin’ up and they’re throwin’ down. And now it seems their attachment to us is growing softer, spluttering out.
50% believe in nukes down by 5.
    Better kick harder!

  11. The basis for USA-PATRIOT was a 1996 set of laws including the Anti-Terrorism and Effective Death Penalty Act and the Illegal Immigrant Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act. USA-PATRIOT tightened up enforcement of a number of provisions enacted in 1996.

So much of that 342-page PATRIOT Act really ~had~ been read by the congressmembers who enacted it—during the Clinton presidency.

  14. What Watergate could have done is open the door to investigate every aspect of the government, what it had done and why it had done those things. If it was not portrayed as this horrible political anomaly, and instead a slight abberation from standard political practice, the media may have revealed just how far down the rabbit’s hole the corruption, the cover-up, the brutality really went.

That being said, at least the media went after that. When a Bush admin whistleblower, Richard Clark, stepped forward to explain how GWB had demanded that he find a link between the attacks of 9-11 and Iraq, he was portrayed as a partisan hack, and the media allowed that.

Together with the Downing Street Memo, Clark’s testimony should serve as more than enough for the media to start prying the lid off of the most secretive, double-speaking, U.S. admin of recent history. Instead, the memo and Clark will be brushed aside, and we’ll get more heartfelt stories from Fox about how much the troops in Iraq love the food served by Halliburton.
