Pentagon Papers: It was 34 years ago this week...
Wish there was as much media/public uproar over the Downing street memo as there was over the Pentagon papers.
Guess that goes to show the level of media control were facing these days.
Posted by Luna_C on from 06/11 at 12:19 PMHi Mickey -
Tasty little piece. This is a very gutsy guy, eh?I had other thoughts in mind when I arrived on this page, but the first post knocked me over: It seems true that the mainstream press would not go near this stuff, now. There would be no need to rush off to court to try to block publishing - the media themselves would block it. It would become another “internet piece” - and you know how those crazies operate…
And, in any case, if it did get to the Supremes, look at the Ellsberg haters on the bench!
We’re going to have to bang out our own world, Mickey, ya know? One step at a time. Interestingly enough, Chomsky seems to think that, as bad as things are, they’ve rarely been better… We’ll see…
Our “best” (whatever that means) to you and yours, Mickey. Hope your mom is fighting tooth and nail… -joePosted by joe on from Oregon 06/11 at 04:42 PM“Any reader of the “Pentagon Papers” should be warned that although they were commissioned on June 17, 1967, by the Secretary of Defense as “the history of United States involvement in Vietnam from World War II [Sept 2, 1945] to the present” [1968], they are unreliable, inaccurate and marred by serious omissions. They are a contrived history, at best, even though they were written by a selected Task Force under Pentagon leadership.”
