I'm back in NYC: Whitman is in the house, presidents are crying, and search engines might be stacked

  3. “Art marinated in politics.” That’s great.  The crying president series makes me wonder if these guys ever wake up screaming in the middle of the night.

  4. James: they don’t. We sometimes do. They don’t.

  5. Agreed.

I think that answers the question of who, at any given time throughout this country’s history, is the most indoctrined individual, who believes all of the propaganda most firmly...the President.

  6. Welcome back, Mickey.  Yup, we missed you!

I guess Whitman is telling us why those Presidents are weeping.  Or why they should be.  Everyone “knows” the right, though many refuse to admit it, even to themselves. It was James Baldwin, I think, who said that, if we come to recognize America’s horrible injustices, and consistently fail to act, we’ll slowly but surely turn into monsters.  I think we have ample evidence, at least with regard to some people, that Baldwin is right…

Mr. Brusselback does amazing work.  It’s remarkable, isn’t it, that a little painting can somehow contain within it as much gut-wrenching information as could be squeezed into a novella.  Yet, it all just leaps out at you in just a (very powerful) moment.

Google:  Well, I guess we should have known.  Money & Property & Power:  The father and the son and the holy spirit of American Relegion.  And, Oh Lawd, we are perhaps the most relegious people on earth…

  7. Thanks for the links, Michael...and I’m glad to see everyone has appreciated the “crying presidents” as much as I did.
