Mary's revolution...and Donahue goes one-on-one with O'Reilly

Posted by Mickey Z on 09/24 at 06:51 AM
  1. Good mornin’....Ramsey Clark and Ralph Nader are scheduled to speak at the Washington protest starting at 11:30 today. Catch it on C-Span, if you can.........About Phil vs Bill. As it was about to come on here, it was pre-empted. That one portion of the program was not aired. Phil could take on a thousand Bills. Many people forget that Phil was the only voice on mainstream media that opposed the war as it was beginning. His program was immediately cancelled. I have signed petitions asking that he be brought back...............During one of my recent “talks”, a member of the audience said that we have to be in Iraq dropping bombs because Saddam is evil and killed so many of his own people. My answer was, “That is the best argument that I have ever heard as to why we should NOT bomb the people in Iraq.”

  2. Anyone still clinging to the hope that Democrats would do things differently than Hurricane Dubya, watch and see if Hillary, Kerry, or any other potential 2008 candidates make an appearance today in DC.

  3. Wow, a very quiet day, here in the cool observation area.  Well, from this high perch, I spy protests everywhere, and - what’s that?  Oh, I thought it was a dog, but it’s Bill O’Reilly, licking his wounds.  Or, OH - well, he’s licking something.  My apologies to all the dogs I’ve probably offended with my mistake…

    Hi Rosemarie and Mickey -
I’m not surprised that the “debate” didn’t reach the airways.  Suzanne said, this morning:  “Well, Donahue obviously won, but he sure didn’t convey much meaningful information.”
Still, they felt the need to keep the population from seeing it.  What with the hurricane and the protest demonstrations today, we need to be careful not to awaken any more snoozers…

Wonderful story this morning, Mickey.  I can almost see Mary, in my mind’s eye, cautiously confiding in the young fella.  Nice work, Mr. Z.

Years ago, when I lived in Charlevoix, Michigan, I had a long talk with a relatively wealthy, 50-ish woman, about the Vietnam War, and about politics in general.  I quoted Eldridge Cleaver, and said:  “Either you’re a part of the solution or you’re part of the problem.”

She responded:  “Well, we cancelled our subscription to US News and World Report, after it came to our attention that they were so biased toward the Republicans.”
This courageous act of rebellion was seared into my memory forever…

How is the Texan portion of your family, Mickey?
Everything all right?  Let us know…

Nice to see Mudge pop in again, eh Mickey?  I hope he feels well enough to stop in today.

  4. PS
Great shot of Bogart and the gang.
I was just laughing to myself about that scene in which Claude Rains, the Police Captain, arrives at Rick’s Place, and orders his men to close it down.  Bogart rushes over and says, “Hey, you can’t close me down!  What’s going on?” And Claude Rains says:  “Why, I’ve just been informed that there’s gambling taking place, right here on the premises!” Just then a guy comes over and hands him a sack:  “Here’s your winnings, Captain,” he says.  Rains responds:  “Oh, thank you!”
    Great film.

  5. Hey Joe, hasn’t been this quiet around here in weeks. Was it something I said?

My parents are fine. The storm pretty much missed their neck of the woods.

All right..we’ll try this again tomorrow.

  6. um uh i think billy’s right about the war on iraq being part of the war on terror, and i don’t understand it when leftist say that the war on iraq has taken us from the war on terror.  do they think it’s okay to: bomb afghanistan? part of the war on terror. continue to spray toxic defoliants on peasants in colombia? that’s part of the war on terror. continue to overthrow democratically elected leaders and replace them with puppets who like to torture their civilians for us- part of the war on terror. curtail civil liberties? that’s part of the war on terror.  keep people imprisoned and torture them in our gulags or send them off to to be tortured by our allies? that’s part of the war on terror.  what’s their angle? that bombing iraq is not permitted because we should only focus on killing other people* and why didn’t phil mention the iraqis being killed by the united states?

*killing iraqis started way before bush got into office but before it was known as sanctions now it is the war on terror, with more killing.  it must be synonymous with getting people to buy the same product because it is packaged differently like detergent with more stain fighting power.

  7. TM: I’m not saying I’m down with everything Phil said but I did find it refreshing to see O’Reilly put in his place.

I do agree that many leftists seem hesitant to criticize “the war on terror” and instead focus on Bush’s lies, re: Iraq (as if a Democrat would have done better). 9/11 cowed a lot of people into submission.

  8. Hi Mickey, Hi TM -
I’m glad to hear about your family, Mickey.
About today, I guess everyone is off demonstrating.  I’ve spent most of the day outside, trying not to use my “big brain” for a while.  ( First of all, do no harm… )

    TM -
Perhaps we need one of those “counters,” like Mickey has on the front page, top right.  Except, we could have a “body-counter,” for those killed by the US government.  Imagine if we started the count at the precise moment Jefferson was penning those immortal words: “We hold these truths to be self-evident...”

  9. Great idea, Joe...but the number might not fit on my screen.
