Rosa Parks (1913-2005)...plus: steroids, boredom, and secrets to share
“No, the only tired I was, was tired of giving In.” That says it all !!! The Unites States of Apathy someday will wake up, maybe. In my lifetime, I don’t know. Here is a link to an old one of mine that was intended to help wake up some of the sleeping masses. I just spotted it on SW. http://www.socialistworker.org/2005-2/562/562_08_TortureWeapon.shtml
Posted by RMJ on from Churchill 4 Prez Hdqts 10/25 at 08:21 AMgood article and i think this is what you are implying but i will add a bit in anyway
“The military (ALWAYS) wants just one more weapon system, even though it already has enough firepower and nuclear power to kill every living thing on the planet.”
its a permanent sort of thing.
what r the socialist worker like in the US anyway? a lot of people here r not fond of the british lot (including me). they r often referred to as the ‘stalinist workers party.’ not from having stalinist policies but for trying to turn every movement into a recruiting drive for themsleves and other sneaky things. if they can’t control it, they don’t want to be in it.
new blog too… http://thumpingthetub/blogspot.com
Posted by michael on from scotland 10/25 at 08:48 AMbush said he doesnt even think about bin laden anymore. does it matter if he is dead? to all intents and purposes bin laden is now Goldstein. it doesn’t even matter if he existed in the first place. al-zarqawi is mini-goldstein!!
Posted by michael on from scotland 10/25 at 10:32 AMhello?
i can see tumbleweeds!
Posted by michael on from scotland 10/25 at 10:48 AMHello RMJ and Michael. I sense a new tangent here:
George W. Bush (December 14, 2001):
“I don’t know whether we’re going to get him tomorrow, or a month from now, or a year from now. I really don’t know. But we’re going to get him...Dead or alive, either way. It doesn’t matter to me.”George W. Bush (March 13, 2002):
“I don’t know where he is...I truly am not that concerned about him.”As for SW, I don’t know much about them but I know the Workers World party (ANSWER) is often tagged as “Stalinists.”
Posted by Mickey Z. on from Astoria 10/25 at 10:53 AMHello all…
regular Znet readers will have already seen this article, but for those that haven’t it shows the results of a secret poll of Iraqis taken by the British military that confirms a lot of what we already know about Iraq:
captcha:terms, as in our government needs to come to terms with that fact that we need to get the hell out of Iraq.
Posted by JOS on from wdthu.blogspot.com 10/25 at 11:16 AMThe poll was actually taken by the Ministry of Defense (pronounce it like Austin Powers did in the movie and it sounds so much nicer)
Posted by JOS on from wdthu.blogspot.com 10/25 at 11:19 AMOh be-hayve, JOS.
Posted by Mickey Z. on from Astoria 10/25 at 11:21 AMin more honest times it used to be called the ministry of war. i think the same thing happened in the US didn’t it - the change of name i mean?
Altogether now..
War is peace
and so on
captcha = clearly, as in i wish the UK and US governments would speak....
Posted by michael on from scotland 10/25 at 11:25 AMHi Mickey - and Rosemarie and Michael -
I agree, Michael. Osama is Emmanuel Goldstein; he is the cold war; he is the war on drugs. There will be no search for his “remains.”They’ve spent $51 million on this weapon, eh Rosemarie? This would be a nice little dollop of cash for the folks in New Orleans or Mississippi, or for people in need, all over the country. Instead, they’re working to develop a weapon to boil people alive, from the inside, out.
The ruling classes must be just terrified of peace. They constantly scramble to create more efficient methods of producing horror, insanity… and, of course, profits.
On a positive note, I’ll be able to reheat my to-go cup of coffee, without having to go indoors.I much enjoyed the Lizzy Jennings story, Mickey. I read it recently in 50AR. I much enjoyed the whole book, in fact.
I’ve not returned to the “PostSecret” site since the last time you linked to it. It’s a strangely haunting, poignant place, isn’t it? I’ve never been anywhere quite like it… Thanks.
Posted by joe on from Oregon 10/25 at 11:29 AMsince someone was on about monty python
“a message form john cleese to all americans”
http://pbahq.smartcampaigns.com/node/781further to this Cleese was asked the differences between england and america (not scotland i might add. its a different country. now, parochial pride intact i shall proceed)
John Cleese did once talk about the 3 differences between England and America,
1. We speak English
2. When we hold a World Championship we invite teams from other countries
3. When you meet our head of state you only have to go down on one kneePosted by michael on from scotland 10/25 at 11:32 AMHi JOS - didn’t see ya.
The last line of that article, JOS, says:
“If British troops withdrew, the terrorists would say, ‘Look, we have imposed our will on the most accomplished armed forces in the world and terror is the way to oblige the Europeans to surrender to us’.”
Yup, that’s it.
If we withdraw, they’ll concentrate on the invasion and ultimate subjugation of the nations of Europe. From there, it’s but a short hop to North America…Posted by joe on from Oregon 10/25 at 11:34 AMGreat link and great quote, Michael, thank you!
Posted by joe on from Oregon 10/25 at 11:36 AMSo we’re being have today? What a NOVEL idea! (small throat-clearing noise)
RMJ, from yesterday: Well dear, my peregrinations about the town discombobulated me severely and I simply did not make it to the airport. I prostrate myself and beg forgiveness of your august and bounteous heart. How about instead, when winter’s got a firm grip on Bennington this approaching March, you come enjoy a week or so in the 60-degree days that are Texas’s end-of-winter days?
Reparations/war tax: We pay war tax already. A billion-plus per day to drop bombs on the Iraqis, f/ex. Reparations? Uh uh. Feed, house, clothe, educate and protect from disease first. I don’t want to place emphasis on war and its many attendant evils, past or present, so as to influence the future to be a kinder, gentler place. I don’t think one does that most effectively by punishing for the past so much as inspiring better behavior now and leading toward the future with a more positive goal. I don’t mean to advocate the “happy happy joyjoy” view of the past...be honest about what happened! Just don’t give it more energy than a vision for a better present and thereby a brighter future.
And thanks for the encouragement...I used to try to outsmart the bureaucrats, but it never got me anything except angry bureaucrats who felt belittled (so I succeeded yet failed). I tend to side with your collapse-happy pal, BTW. I’d strongly recommend Jared Diamond’s new book Collapse to see why. The chapters on China...!
MZ and MZ, happy anniversary! I hate you both! I am consumed with brown and bitter bile at the thought of your sixteen happy years together! (Hey RMJ, how’s that for not practicing what I preach?!)
Hey JOS, how’s it hangin’?
Michael, good Scots lefty, your blog inspires me. Thanks for thumpin’ the bloody tub for us all.
Captch: attack (snerkle)
Posted by Mudge on from Dear, dead Austin 10/25 at 11:42 AMBTW - aboutthe cleese thing. some of what he says is funny but we r not better. our prime minister (form the photo on my blog) is a smug, shallow, lying, sycophantic (i want to add duplicitous to the list) creep.
captcha: heart - as in tony blair has no…
Posted by michael on from scotland 10/25 at 11:59 AMHello Expendables. Feeling a bit phlegmy, Mudge? Fear not, your “novel” idea will be featured by the end of the week. I promise.
I’m heading out into a very rainy NYC day. See ya’ll later.
Posted by Mickey Z. on from Astoria 10/25 at 12:05 PMThis is off-topic, but interesting:

Posted by The Infanta (Merlin) on from New York 10/25 at 12:25 PMHi all, hi Mudge, actually, not at all, I have to wrap it around my left thigh...wow, that’s bad, but then again, Mudge brings it out of me so it’s his fault.
Joe, I skipped over that last line, thanks for pointing it out.
Here’s one from postasecret that I think we can all relate to...or not:
Posted by JOS on from A magical place... 10/25 at 01:36 PMMichael...Cleese’s three differences are hilarious.
and you’re right, the UK and the US are terribly similar:captcha.
Posted by JOS on from A magical place... 10/25 at 01:39 PM“Novel” idea, Mickey/Mudge?
Posted by JOS on from A magical place... 10/25 at 01:41 PMAnother great/funny/enlightening post with excellent graphics, Mickey! And congrats on the 16th anniversary of your meeting Michele - it will be 23 years in January 2006 since I first met my ‘significant other’. Many happy returns to you and Michele!
Posted by Helga Fremlin on from Daylesford, Australia 10/25 at 02:36 PMAnd hi, RMJ, michael (like your blog a lot btw!), JOS, joe, Mudge and The Infanta!
Posted by Helga Fremlin on from Daylesford, Australia 10/25 at 02:39 PMSo, when do we get to hear from the mysterious “Mr. Helga”?
JOS: “novel” secret to be revealed ASAP.
Hello all. Is everybody happy?
Posted by Mickey Z. on from Astoria 10/25 at 02:40 PMYes, happy anniversary M&M!
Posted by JOS on from La Isla Del Encanta 10/25 at 02:42 PMAnd thanks for the great John Cleese quote and link from me as well, michael!
Posted by Helga Fremlin on from Daylesford, Australia 10/25 at 02:45 PMI think I have figured out the secret already...but, I’ll wait and see. Looking forward to it.
Posted by JOS on from La Isla Del Encanta 10/25 at 02:46 PMThe mysterious “Mr Helga” aka Mr Alan Fremlin does not really like to comment anywhere Mickey! He is a bit shy, or so he says ..
Posted by Helga Fremlin on from Daylesford, Australia 10/25 at 02:57 PMNo pressure on Alan from me, Helga. I appreciate the visitors here...even if they choose not to comment.
Posted by Mickey Z. on from Astoria 10/25 at 03:09 PMJOS, wouldn’t “Isla de la Vida Encantada” or “Isla del Sueno Dorado” work as an identifier? A wait-and-see attitude is a practical one, I find.
Helga, 23 years? Okay, my ire and envy are now directed at you and Mr. Helga. Yah boo!! Nyah!
Merlin the Infanta! That was an interesting diversion, but so far as I can discern there is no real on/off topic around here, just different threads we yank or slack off on at various intervals.
MZ, dear, “y’all” is an elision of “You All” and so must be apostrophized after the “y” or one violates the most sacredest spirit of the South: do it raht! Enjoy the rain. We’re over 6” behind for the year, which puts us under 30” and therefore officially makes this a desert.
Heavy, heavy sigh. The Goddess of My Idolatry ignoreth me. I droop. I wilt. I pine for Her Notice. RMJ, where art thou?
I’m giving the writing exercise at my writer’s group today, so I am off to prepare. Hugs to each of y’all!
Posted by Mudge on from Dear, dead Austin 10/25 at 03:14 PMMudge, I am here with a broken heart to mend,
Sometimes I feel that you just pretend.
You have found the perfect way to incite,
The feelings that can come on only a special night.
When you use words like “peregrinations”,
You excite the wildest of rare imaginations.
I think of things that can be only imaginary,
Because you make me rush to my unabridged dictionary.Posted by RMJ on from Churchill 4 Prez Hdqts 10/25 at 04:07 PMYes, those would do, Mudge.
The Island of Enchantment, as PR is called, is often said with a wry smile by us Puerto Ricans. It is enchanting in many ways...but, can also be pretty frustrating...mainly when dealing with the government.
Posted by JOS on from La Isla Del Encanta 10/25 at 04:17 PMMudge:
I’m not Merlin, though MZ thinks I am, maybe. That’s ok.
I do think it’s interesting how the terms of the debate on animal rights are completely different in Italy than they are here. Here, activists struggle to get people to wrap their minds around legislation targeting barbaric cruelty. In Italy, the population supports heavily regulating (BIG fines!) even quality of life issues like walking a dog.
We certainly have something to learn.
Posted by The Infanta (Jordan) on from 10/25 at 04:18 PMExcellent poem, Rosemarie!
Posted by JOS on from La Isla Del Encanta 10/25 at 04:19 PM“When you use words like “peregrinations”,
You excite the wildest of rare imaginations.”I love that…
Posted by JOS on from La Isla Del Encanta 10/25 at 04:21 PMThanks JOS. Something about Mudge makes me feel very mischievous. I will try to behave now.
HI Helga, Joe, Mickey, The Infanta, Michael, and apologies to anyone I might have missed. This has been quite a day. I am in my first snow storm of the season...leaves still on the trees promise power outages. The 2000th US soldier killed. Big things planned all over the country for tomorrow. Too bad that we still do not honor their dead, like we honor our dead.
Back to the subject of a War Tax and Reparations...No tax has been levied and earmarked as a war tax. True, billions have been spent but it was taken from the treasury and from future generations. That’s just not fair. If our generation wants to go around the world killing, then our generation should pay for it. But the more important reason for a tax and reparations would be to discourage wars. Given the choice between health care, reduced taxes, etc. or war, most people, I think, would not chose war. Reparations are important because they would spotlight grievances, some of which are still occurring, such as Diego Garcia. How else can we get the US out of Diego Garcia???
