News of the World
i thought other people were supposed to throw the christians to the lions!
Posted by michael on from scotland 11/17 at 08:29 AMMorning Michael and Mick…
I remember hearing horror stories from people of middle eastern background in NYC on WBAI soon after 9/11...getting thrown in jail, beaten, threatened. People in my own family were saying we would have to reinstitute camps for Arabs if there was another attack. I wonder, if/when there is another attck here...will we just go all the way? I remember going to the corner store a couple of weeks after 9/11, I think the owner was Indian (from India). He had just been threatend, and I will never forget the look on his face. This was on the Upper West Side of Manhattan...a supposed “liberal” breeding ground.
Posted by Big Country JOS in the house on from Calle Colón 11/17 at 08:54 AMFreeh asks why the 9/11 commission ignored Able Danger:
Anybody else hear that Sander Hicks met Cheney not to long ago and asked him:
“What do I say to people who say 9/11 was an inside job?” He looked at me blankly and said, “Look at the evidence. It’s not true!”

ROFL
Don’t you think it’s super that our “leaders” are still up there, still lookin’ to get no the stand-up circuit as a reitrement gig? I mean really, ya gotta KNOW they’re goofin’ on us! Cannot possibly be serious! Never! no one’s that cynical.
or are they?
Posted by Mudge on from Dear, dead Austin 11/17 at 10:22 AMi’m afraid they are. they continue to prove it on a daily basis. invasions, torture, chemical weapons, depleted uranium etc etc et fucking cetera

Posted by Mudge on from Dear, dead Austin 11/17 at 10:30 AMBut Michael! That’s all theatre, just like the moon landing! Anything can be staged, look at the Serbian death-camp ikon! Silly you >nudge< taking seriously all this mean nasty stuff. Everything’s beautiful!
Just remember that the bowl of cherries needs a bath in clorox bleach before you eat ‘em, it seems to cut down the number of mutagens on their skins. But that’s all beautiful too, look how BIG the cherries are from the mutagens!
Posted by Mudge on from Dear, dead Austin 11/17 at 10:34 AMJoe, from yesterday: “Most of the world seems bored, eh Mudge? Perhaps they’re asleep, reaming they’re bored…”
They complain vociferously of being bored! They act bored with the world around them (!?!?) by isolating themselves from it in hand-held games, games on their $)(&!&^$) sellphones, iPods that rerun broadcast TELEVISION! God forbid they should put all this crap down, sit in a stinky hospital room, and listen to the ACTUAL REALLY LIVED LIFE of a human being from another world...a seriously old person comes from a world that just isn’t anymore, and that’s as close to science fiction as I can imagine getting in the flesh...to just permaybehaps hear a little truth, even if it’s just between the lies.
And, but don’t tell them this, have the experience of doing something slightly less selfish than usual.
Silly me. Thinking that actual reality can compete with manufactured and planned and, to me at least, sinister packaged real-life games.
Posted by Mudge on from Dear, dead Austin 11/17 at 10:58 AMMornin Mickey, Mudge, Michael, & Big Country JO!
Michael, that line from Blair is the schizophrenic-summation of the 21st Century, thusfar. He and Bush are among history’s great speakers, eh? One simply can’t misunderestimate them enough…
Big Country, I can’t put much faith in Louie Freeh’s remarks. He concludes with praise for the legendary Arlen Spector, and argues that we must pay attention to this new factoid.
Our Senator Spector was a major player in the investigation of another - THE other - great mystery of the last 100 years, the Warren Commission Report on the Assassination of President Kennedy. His presence in the current investigations adds considerably to the slime-factor, and makes me wonder, all over again, about these two tremendous crimes…
Statements from Professor Jones are also very interesting. He teaches at BYU, possibly the epicenter of Mormonism, and as conservative and
supportive of the mainstream mindset as folks found at a Rupert Murdoch dinner party. If a professor from BYU is taking issue with the official version of our latest “Pearl-Harbor-like event,” there may be something fascinating in the wind…Mudge, I once told a teenager: “I’m never bored!” He responded: “Oh, man, that shit’s so boring - YOU are boring.”
Posted by joe on from Oregon 11/17 at 11:16 AMPS - Mudge, your rantings point at one of the fundamental problems of capitalist civilization. We’re so profoundly discouraged from taking any action at all to help ourselves or each other, that all we can imagine doing is to turn on the tube or the iPod or the XBox… We could focus on the subject for weeks without exhausting its almost infinite potential to be interesting and enraging…

that guardian chomsky interview has been withdrawn from teh site and a somewhat grovelling apology issued. does anyone still have the original interview?

sorry mudge - can’t use tinyurl
Posted by michael on from scotland 11/17 at 11:27 AMHey Michael, God knows you’re smart enough to use TinyURL, so I presume there is another reason preventing you from using it...it’s really not a huge issue, though, it’s just a lot easier on the eyes and clicks. Those two-line URLs are a bear! (Not like the last one you posted, of course, it’s not two lines.)
Big Country! NaNo!
Joe: “Fundamental problems of capitalist civilization: Profound discouragement from taking any action at all to help ourselves or each other” sounds like the title of a submission to that capitalism rejected thingus MZ posted on the main page. Get writin’ there, Mr. Philosopher Joe!
Posted by Mudge on from Dear, dead Austin 11/17 at 11:43 AMmost of the time i use the computers at work (in the uni) and certain things don’t work
Posted by michael on from scotland 11/17 at 11:49 AMJoe, no doubt we should take anything a former F.B. of Intimidation says with a big grain of salt...still he is correct that the commission was told of Able Danger before the relaease of their report and yet they still said that no gov’t agency knew of Atta before 9/11.
Mudge, I may be able to do some NaNo work now...I just need to stop bitching about all that I have to do and simply do it.
“race!”
Posted by Big Country JO on from The MotherF-in' Ghetto 11/17 at 12:15 PMBig Country - you’re absolutely right, I didn’t mean to be dismissive of your post - sorry. My mouth / fingers are faster than my big-brain.
Rather, I figured that, if Freeh AND Arlen Specter are involved, there’s more - much more - going on than meets the eye.
For example; if we focus on the “obvious intelligence failures,” described by Freeh and Specter, perhaps we’ll overlook the physics study from the conservative scientist at BYU, who says that the government report contradicts the laws of nature… ( Maybe Bush can actually DO something like that with an Executive Order… )You know, though I agree that a single-minded focus on the 9/11 ‘conspiracy theories’ is foolish, given the almost infinite number of definite and obvious crimes committed by the government, I still think that the official version of those events is “Monte Python Hilarious!”
Mudge, I’m bored with politics. Jeez! It seems like the world is NEVER going to change…
Can you recommend a new video game that might capture my attention and passions?Posted by joe on from Oregon 11/17 at 12:47 PMJoe, we are at a point in our electronic friendship that has moved beyond the need for apologies for minor (perhaps non-existent is a better description) infractions, don’t you think?
Wow, can you tell that I am in the writing mode as I am getting all wordy and shit?
Anyway, Joe, you are absolutely right that all these “persons” have agendas. Well, like Chomsky says, we all have agendas...it’s just that “persons” like Freeh and Spector have bad ones. So I agree with you, my friend.
“Persons” was my captcha word if you couldn’t tell already.

Posted by Grande Jo on from El Barrio 11/17 at 02:08 PMHello Expendables. Another busy day, so it will take some time for me to catch up on the conversations.
My novel is fast becoming an afterthought. Perhaps after I do my talk tomorrow night, I’ll have a little “space” to add to it. The funny thing is that the novel really won’t need 50,000 words for me to say what I want to say.
Anyway, I’ll be back soon…
Posted by Mickey Z. on from Astoria 11/17 at 02:36 PMAmazing piece, Big Country. They say this guy speaks for the military…
And check out Mr. Chaney, who: “jumped into the fray Wednesday by assailing Democrats who contend the Bush administration manipulated intelligence on Iraq, calling their criticism “one of the most dishonest and reprehensible charges ever aired in this city.”
This guy can not! tell the truth. Imagine scenes with him and his mom when he was little: “Dicky, why are you in the cookie jar?” “I’m NOT in the cookie jar, mom.” “Dicky, your hand is right IN the jar, now1” “No, it’s NOT Mom.” “Dicky, your face, hands and shirt are covered with cookie crumbs!” “Mom, that’s one of the most dishonest and reprehensible charges ever made by a mother toward her loving son...”Oh, and one more I just have to note:
“...he related several stories of visiting wounded troops, including one who was blinded and lost both his hands but had been denied a Purple Heart because friendly fire caused his injuries.”Yeah, you don’t want to just toss these medals around… it’s for soldiers with REAL injuries!
Hey, Mickey. Good to see you.
A novella will be fine.
I hope we’ll somehow be able to read these splendid pieces when you guyz are finished…Posted by joe on from Right Here! 11/17 at 03:09 PMI´m about 23,000 words in with another 10,000 in a rough draft, way I feel is it´ll be as long or as short as it has to.
About 911, it was amazing how if you listened to the reports in the very beginning (for those of you not in the city of course), the newscasters told it exactly as it was: “Way buildings are falling so clean almost like a controlled demolition”, controlled demolition, controlled demolition etc., pointing out one of the planes had no airline markings and a funny looking contraption affixed to the side, I heard a few stifling laughter at the tiny size of the hole in Pennsylvania a plane was supposed to have made and the complete lack of plane wreckage at the Pentagram, and then the official story clomped in and everyone´s walking about going “Well the pancake theory works like this...” the 21st-century Magic Bullet.
Posted by Owen on from Barcelona 11/17 at 04:17 PMBig Country, you do what you do and get what you can to me when/if you want to.
MZ, well you never were verbose. See above to Big Country.
Joe, politics is the funniest show going! Look at Blair’s new routine! I about had an attack! Oh dear, nad use of the word.
Owen, hit it on the nail. Books are as long as they need to be, and they come out that way...a lot like kids. Most we can do is fancy up the edges.
Ta now, y’all, it’s time for me to NaNo my brain-o out.
Posted by Mudge on from Dear, dead Austin 11/17 at 04:37 PMThanks .. for keeping your eyes open for all of us MZ’ers, Mickey!
And a big hello to Michael, Mudge, JOS, Joe and Owen (have I forgotten anyone?). Why are we ‘expendables’, Mickey?Bye ..
Good piece from Ted Rall on how the MSM can restore credibility:
http://www.commondreams.org/views05/1116-29.htmPosted by Helga Fremlin on from Daylesford, Australia 11/17 at 05:00 PMHelga, if I could answer that one...wow.
Seriously, you’re gonna have to ask Joe from Oregon because he coined the name.
Posted by Mickey Z. on from Astoria 11/17 at 05:17 PMHi Everyone...sorry to be away all day. I was in Massachusetts. Mickey, That is great that you posted the link about radioactive sperm and also the one about Diego Garcia. I am disappointed that there are not comments about them. I was sure that the “radioactive sperm” would raise a bit of interest and the Diego Garcia issue is more important than it looks. It was, and still is, the staging area for the attacks in Iraq and also it is rumored that one of those secret torture prisons is located there.///////////I am sorry that I am not smart enough to do that tiny url thing. I will try. Please, someone explain it again and also say why it is a good thing. I usually test the links that I post and they are just one click so I don’t understand what the issue is. I will try harder to learn how to do it. I am still trying to learn how to do a hyperlink and no one will explain that to me either. (I have the books, but just have not had time to study them.)
Posted by RMJ on from Churchill 4 Prez Hdqts 11/17 at 06:22 PMyou can watch John Pilger’s excellent documentary “Stealing a Nation” about the plight of the Chagos Islanders here: http://tinyurl.com/dxtey
Posted by tm on from outside world 11/17 at 06:38 PMThanks, tm....I have been trying to get that documentary aired in this country.
Mudge, right after I was arrested I started to write a story based on the events. The setting was a fictional town called, “Shokanah”. Your story about Rosamonde would be much better....and now I have to do homework about how to do tiny url’s.Posted by RMJ on from Churchill 4 Prez Hdqts 11/17 at 06:47 PMRosemarie - we love you even if you never, ever become even 1/2 as savvy as, say, a 16 year old, which is the industry standard, I think. About glowing sperm and Diego Garcia - I plead “Eliotism:” Torn from distraction by distraction. 9/11, boredom, and videogames got the best of me, I’m afraid. You’re right, Diego Garcia is a gargantuan crime… though, given our record here on the mainland, it’s simply another day at work… The British were but another in a long line of thug-surrogates
Owen: Controlled Demolition is what my wife and I thought, also. We had many discussions about the Payne Stewart tragedy, as well. He died less than a year before. When his plane, a small, relatively inconsequential private rocket, went off course, it was very quickly shadowed by various instantly scrambled military fighter jets. We learned, at the time, that it is SOP, and the law, to scramble fighters when planes step out of bounds - even for a few moments, and radio contact can not be established.
Helga: It’s just the way I happened to address the gang here, one day. Folks seemed to think it an appropriate name, as - from any official perspective - we ARE expendable.
Oh, also… about the Ted Rall essay. Part of the title says: “...How the Media Can Restore Credibility.”
For most of us, I think, they did not ever have credibility. They could get some, I suppose, by turning themselves in to the authorities at The Hague, for Crimes Against Humanity…
Thanks for the link, however. It’s interesting to see what the Democrats are thinking about…Posted by joe on from Oregon 11/17 at 07:12 PMJust in case Mudge hasn’t noticed, there’s a link to TinyURL just below the box in which you type your comments (thanks, Nancy).
Posted by Mickey Z. on from Astoria 11/17 at 08:50 PMMZ, you didn’t see the smooch I sent you yesterday in thanks for the TinyURL doohickus? And thanks, Nancy, it’s fabOOO to have it right there!!
RMJ, well, the radioactive sperm thing was, I thought, a goof. Apparently not. Eeeeeeeeeeeeew. As to Diego Garcia, I can’t really make much out of this...it’s a colonial world and these folks are on the wrong side of the colonization. Is this criminal? Sure...but so is the fact that 45 million people in this richest country ever have no insurance and therefore no access to healthcare. I save my indignation for domestic issues, y’all have Iraq and Diego Garcia covered. I feel redundant commenting on these things because I don’t much care about them. I want the USA to spend its money responsibly, and that means on the people who are here and to whom I believe we owe access to the same goodies the elites keep for themselves. So you whack ‘em from the east, I’ll whack ‘em from the west, and both of us’ll hold the bucket of soapy water over their heads to clean ‘em up.
Rosamonde is still gestating in my mind, but she’s a pistol of a lady...coming from the purest of posh backgrounds into violent opposition to the system that made her so rich, all because she studied and absorbed ethics. Dunno where she’s coming from all the way back, just yet anyway, but she’s apparently not gonna leave me alone!
TinyURL is really just to prevent links from breaking, as sometimes they do. Select a random archived month, click on some of the links, and there’s a chance that it will give you the dreaded “Page cannot be displayed” message. I don’t know why it is, but links seem to fegrade over time. Anyway, it’s not at all a crucial factor, and spend not one more neuron’s firing on it on any account except for your own interest. No need to study up!
I’m presently in plt hell. I can’t figure out how to get the three people who need to be a certain place to get there plausibly. I’ve cogitated a good chink of today, still working it out and it’s making me into a crazy person.
Off to have anohter bash. Love you all to “death.”
Posted by Mudge on from Dear, dead Austin 11/17 at 11:00 PMHi all, been too busy to add anything interesting before now. Joe, while I agree that the media, taken as a whole, have committed many crimes, as the Expendable’s representative in The Hague, I can tell you that the authorities here might consider turning themselves in to themselves. I plead some ignorance on all their shortcomings, but their shortcomings are more than a few.
As long as we’re flirting with conspiracy theories (9/11), does anyone else think it’s a scandal that out of all the destruction caused by the South Asian tsunami last December, only Diego Garcia escaped unscathed? It is already well known that the US Navy (I think) knew about the tsunami in time to have actually helped (they didn’t, what’s new), but how the hell did they manage to part the waters at Diego Garcia?
Rosemarie:
tinyurl is done this way: (1) copy the link you want to make into a tiny url, (2) go to tinyurl.com, (3) paste in the link in the box in the center of the screen, (4) click “make tinyurl”, (5) copy the new tinyurl that appears below and use that.
Everything I know about HTML (including how to make hyperlinks) I learned here. No fear!
Posted by Keir on from The Hague 11/18 at 05:10 AMMSNBC host Tucker Carlson’s remark regarding the theory that explosives inside the WTC buildings brought them down “lets Muslims off the hook” is extremely unfortunate. If this is how mainstream TV-watching America thinks http://www.thefreedictionary.com/a+priori then we are truly heading down a fascist hell-hole, I’m afraid.
