Is George W. Bush just another Criminal-in-Chief?

  1. Happy birthday Jeremy!

I’ve got nothing intelligent to say about todays post, so I’ll just add this:

  3. Of the presidents, the majority of them right from Washington on are descended from Charlemagne. Presidents are not elected by ballot, they are selected by blood so picking one is like the difference between eating warm shit and eating cold shit.

  4. How do all...been dog-sitting for a friend whose impending nuptials took him to gay, metropolitan Peoria to meet’n’greet the bride’s clan.

Many happy returns of the day, Jeremy!  May your personal New Year be fun-filled.

Mew, I like these lines best:
    “Is everyone in?
Are you having a nice time?
Now the final solution can be applied.”
    Timely, timely....

  5. OK, MZ, just one question…

How in God’s name did you know today was my birthday???!!! Seriously, dude, you’re wiggin’ me out! I know there’s got to be a logical explanation, but you’ve got me. Thanks sincerely for the best wishes, though (to mew, Owen, Mudge, too). It’s very cool to be featured at the mickeyz homepage! I suppose I’ll go ahead and satisfy everyone’s curiosity and let you know I’m 29 today.

As for the presidents, let us look at the lighter side of things…

Andrew Jackson killed the bank, just as he swore to do!

As for the rest, I tried, but I couldn’t really think of anything positive to say. Not that there isn’t anything, I just am at a loss to come up with anything. Okay, so that idea didn’t go over very well.

Mew, #1 - Haven’t listened to “The Final Cut” in a long time. While not my favorite Floyd album, there’s some good stuff.

  6. Hello Mew, Owen, Mudge, and Jeremy. Anything new with the job situation, Mudge?

Jeremy, I am so tempted to go all mean-big-brother on you and not explain...but, hey, I’m way too nice for that. A few weeks ago, I posted a link where one could learn what song was #1 in America on their birthdate. When you reported your answer, you not only told us what song it was...you told us the date.

    Voila

  7. this question is for anyone to answer…

at the beginning of the post is mention of how poor of a job dubya is doing. I am just wondering what any of you think might have happened with this term of presidency if Kerry had won the election?

Posted by Kate  on  from Mass. 03/13  at  10:30 AM
  8. Kate: The bigger question is:  Would 911 of happened if Gore was the President? Besides everyone knows the Democrats won both elections.  Not that it matters that much anyways, leaning towards Owen’s POV… heh

Don’t forget both Waco and Okalahoma City bombing happened on Clinton’s watch.

Nagasaki and Hiroshima were incredibly tragic and revisionist history telling us that Japan was going to surrender without the need for them makes it a monstrous criminal act

How does this compare to this little tidbit.

“Dr. Katsuma Yagasaki, a Japanese physicist at the University of the Ryukyus in Okinawa, has estimated that the atomicity equivalent of at least 400,000 Nagasaki bombs has been released into the global atmosphere since 1991”

    Taken from this article.

That’s on the heads of Two Bush’s and One Clinton.  If truth be told that’s like genocidal behaviour with everyone the victim.

    Worst President$ EVER!

  9. Excellent, excellent post Mickey. And Owen, good point about the warm vs. cold shit.

Kate, here’s my answer to your question…

The sorry state of affairs is not about George W. Bush. Repeat: it is not about George W. Bush. The correct point that Mickey makes, I think, is they were all a bunch of thugs, even the best of ‘em. (Owen adds that it may very well be a genetic disorder.) A Kerry government may not have assaulted women’s productive rights quite as violently, and it may not have embraced intelligent design. But still. I think it’s important to remember that Kerry promised to do a better, more responsible job as imperialist numero uno and commander-in-chief of history’s most horrid campaign of international state terror.

  10. Hello All & Happy Birthday Jeremy!

Not as much time to spend here as I’d like and I’m also busy wallowing about our minority appointed Jackass proclaiming that “God Bless Canada” (I’ve never heard that EVER! thought it would forever remain the bastion of the US to proclaim god’s blessings in that way) to the Cdn. troops in Afghanistan - sHarper’s taken himself off for a tour to reassure them all that the few Parliamentarians asking for a debate on the issue will not have their way.

There’ll be plenty of poster fodder for this weekend’s protest.

  11. Back again...no gig yet, MZ, thanks for asking, though the temp agency called Friday to be sure I’d be available Monday, and I am.  Temp work, whatever, just gimme a gig!!  Gotta have the Benjamins, baby.

Empress dear, it’s so sad to see Canada making our well-documented mistakes.  So sad.  So here we all are in one hideous neocon boat.  >shudder<

The thugocracy is the same for the USA generation by generation because money talks, and always has, and always will.  The folks with money are the ones to please no matter the alleged party affiliation.  No wonder stuff stays the same.

  12. Jeremy, I hope that you get what you really want for your birthday. Can you tell us what it is?  Hugs to you on your special day!

Keir, you beat me again. I would have said that Kerry, while he was campaigning, said that he would wage the war bigger and better. I don’t think that things would be much different with a Dem in the White House. The forces that control the decision making process there would be the same. I DO think that things would be a little different if Nader was president. I know that Nader is sometimes criticized because he is not an anarchist, but if you follow what he says, you can conclude that he is not really a Capitalist either.
Mickey, the question that you bring to mind is, “Has the US ever had a president who should be looked up to as an example of a great national leader?”
My captcha word is “money” hummmmm

  13. Well, I really have to go off to Melbourne but wanted to thank Mickey for this history lesson and wish a VERY HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Jeremy.

And ‘hi’ to all the other MZ’ers aka expendables.

Now it’s really ‘goodbye’.  See you all again next Sunday/Saturday right here.

  14. Hello everyone. Helga, have a safe and wonderful trip.

Kaitlin: I can elaborate if you wish, but I’d have to agree with much of what has been said already. No one can predict with 100% certainty what Kerry would have done (as Neils Bohr said: “It’s tough to make prediction...especially about the future.") but there’s not much in his rhetoric or record to inspire hope. I do think he would’ve handled Katrina a little differently. He likely would not have been prepared either...but you can be damn sure he’d have been there feeling everyone’s pain ASAP.

  15. Another case of Mad Cow Disease has been found in the USA. The government’s response is to consider decreasing the number of cows checked for the fatal disease. Sort of makes sense, if they are finding too many sick cows they should just scale back the testing. Then they will find fewer cases of Mad Cow. The kids having lunch in schools all across the country will eat the evidence.  Urghhhhh!!!!!

  16. Excellent post today, Mick!  We can always count on you to snap us back to reality.  As far as I know, Clinton was responsible for more deaths than Bush around the world...of course Bush still has three years.

I saw an amazing quote from President Nixon the other day on the Daily Show...something about derogatory about Mexicans, than saying something along the lines of, “but at least the have some sense of family, they don’t live like dogs like the negroes.” It was from one of his famous tapes...it’s amazing to me...how we put these guys in the White House every four years.

    Happy Birthday, Jeremy.

You should have messed with his mind and not told him. Mickey.

  17. Sorry I didn’t have the chance to comment properly on your post today Mickey - I always find them enormously informative and like the way you put it all together.  I’m a little burnt lately, and don’t want to stare at the computer for too much longer today. I always manage to read, but often don’t have enough time to concoct an intelligent commentary. It’ll be like that on and off for a while to come.

In my childhood we took a summer long road trip and one among our tourist stops was Mount Rushmore. It was years later before I ever knew that the place was sacred to the Sioux and the sordid slap in your face nature of having those faces carved into the mountain’s face. I do remember wondering what the friggin point of it was - it’s not as if it’s a ‘nice’ looking site to behold - I mean you marvel at the magnitude of the carving, but it held no artistic fascination for me whatsoever.

Hey Valentino - Ol’ Stella Leatherface here saw that Nixon piece you mention above. It is startling how egregious the behaviour is of all these fellas. No one plays the tapes till later though - can’t give people reason to get uppity while they’re in office.
I think Keir’s right about the genetic dysfunction. Eugenics anyone?

Mudge I’m hoping you’ve got good news tomorrow; I know you’ll be here for a good tofu recipe.

Posted by Amelopsis  on  from Canada 03/13  at  06:27 PM
  18. Leathernuts #16: Nixon was a man of his times, no?  He saw nothing wrong with what he said, and would have then been praised for saying “negroes” instead of “niggers” like most did even then.

Empress #17: Burn-out’s hard to cope with.  Rest.  We’ll miss your commentary, but lurk for a while so as not to make yourself a complete loss.

MZ, to Clinton’s other blech-inducing behaviors, add signing into law the “Defense of Marriage” Act.

Lastly, RMJ, the answer of ostriches (metaphorical ones, no one remind me real ones don’t do this) through the ages is to Just Not Know.  Outrageously stupid, IMHO.

  19. Agh!  We had Mad Cow disease all over the UK not long back.  Verdict - too much media hoohah and some very amusing press gaffes by the then Tory government, leading to a classic Private Eye cover.

(Private Eye is the UK’s biggest selling satirical mag, BTW)

Suffice it to say that very little of real danger emerged, if memory serves.  Something of a storm in a teacup.  Talking of which, and knowing that many people here have a keen eye for animal rights, our incredibly fucked up Foot n Mouth business was an astounding mess.  Half a million (maybe more) head of cattle destroyed ... in case they caught a (non fatal) disease ... that’s not contagious for humans ... we were in no danger ... duh.

    Another triumph for stupidity.

Sorry to be commenting so little at present, very busy with many things.  All my love to the Expendables and many happy returns to Jeremy.

If I can pick up a recent thread, for my money The Sopranos is excellent entertainment.  No idea how realistic it is, but hugely enjoyable & great to watch - I suggest renting a whole season if possible.

Regrettably, living in a televisually backward country, we won’t get season six until about the time when AJ is in Uncle Junior’s shoes.  PLEASE no spoilers.  If I log on here & see people saying “wow, I can’t believe the whole family killed themselves in a Mexican standoff after losing the TV remote” then I may have to live in a cave & howl for a while.

Wonderful post today, MZ.  Who is the worst president ever?  I would say Harrison Ford.  Anybody who kills a better actor (Gary Oldman) is ... well, probably president!

  20. Hello Expendables. With so many of us copping the I’m-too-busy-to-comment plea, I’m hoping tomorrow’s Recipe Day pans out. Get it? Pans out? Ah, this blog is going to pot.

Interesting thought, Chris. Who is the actor to play a president? James Brolin, perhaps?

Posted by Mickey Z.  on  from Astoria 03/13  at  06:58 PM
  21. To Play A President: The Changing Face of Power in the Movies, by Rosemarie Jackowski and Micahel Zezima.  Foreword by Hal Holbrook, “President Lincoln”

For my money, someone should dig up Joan Crawford and put her in the Oval Office.  She’d be perfect!

  22. Chris #19: I’m so pleased for you that the escorting career has taken off!  Any funny stories?

Say...where’s Tub-Thunping Michael these days?  Hawk poked his beak in for a second, Joe’s still on sabbatical...Old Glen ever show up?  Big Country Leathernuts has returned to the fold, and we’d have to burn the place down to get rid of CatLady, but we’re in a dearthly lull for so many formerly voluble Expendables.

Empress dear, you can post every tofu recipe known and I’ll smile politely as I fry up some pig flesh, extra nitrites, in salted butter.  Don’t let me stop you!  Post away!  I do have an animal-product free recipe to share that’s one of my all-time favorite things to eat.

  24. MZ, #6 - You sly dog, I forgot about that. But I knew there was a logical explanation.

Amelopsis, RMJ, Helga, JOS (aka Valentino Leathernuts), thanks!

RMJ, I didn’t really have a wish. I’d have forgotten all about it if everyone hadn’t kept reminding me. My wife sent a cake to my work, so we had a party in all my classes (I teach English here). If I had a wish for the year, it would be to be able to finish writing a book I’m working on on Iraq!

  25. “burn the place down to get rid of CatLady”... that’s awesome. Just got home from overtime financial statement proofreading, and that’s the last thing I’ll read before an hour or so nap. Do we ever wonder if lines like that are confusing to outsiders?

Mudge have you posted your resume on sites like Monster.com, Hotjobs, nettemps.com, and a few others? They must be a little bit active in Austin at least. Monster is how I found my current job. email me if you need more advice with how those sort of sites work. But really, those things are the first step you take when out of work.

So, Clintons’ history as a conservative republican is almost old hat at this point-- anyone have a link about the warmonger that was Carter? His liberal rep’s so bulletproof, would be great to be better able to dissuade people of it.

I’ll do my best tomorrow. Hard to post much during the day at work, will try either in the morning or evening. I’ve got a dozen or so vegan cookbooks so anyone can always just email me for advice. But um… I’m really bad at actually following recipes, still just do lots of improv along the way.

  26. Hey all, I’m off to take care of my “brother” (honorary position) by house- and dog-sitting again.  His grandma just died today...the day after he gets back home from Illinois six hours late because of the storms that plagued the area, he gets back on a plane and goes back to Chicago for a week!  Well, almost...he’ll be there thru Friday.  So I’ll be back on the spotty-access Internet plan.

I’ll find a way to get to a computer to share my butter-fried sheep’s testicles in diced brain sauce.

  30. Panda meat, Mudge, Pandas.Hope your housesitting goes well and enjoyably. Things like that can go either way in my experience.

I’m looking for tofu recipes and I think that CatLady or Mickey will come up with one despite having suggested otherwise - I’m sort of hoping so anyway, but I will see what I have to throw into the pan for tomorrow.

MZ - more commenting here is more inwardly productive for me, but I have need to appear outwardly so - thus more lurking than would be my tendancy otherwise.

    Night all.
