I'm linkin' like Abe

  1. I’m a big Bruce Lee fan. I read his book, “The Tao of Jeet Kune Do” (no, I’m not a martial artist, but I like his philosophy, which is applicable to all aspects of life), as well as his wife’s biography of him.

The rock link reminded me of a book I’m reading, which reminded me of a book I’ve already read. Anyone read Jared Diamond’s “Guns, Germs, and Steel”? EXCELLENT reading. I’m about a quarter way through his next book, “Collapse”, which is equally fascinating.

  2. Awesome links today, Mickey… you’re gonna get me fired for spending too much time online yet! Sure, I’ll tell a friend-- I’ll get more traffic for your site if I have to date every woman online to do it.

What’s with the Sander article? You have to be a Sun subscriber to view it all…

  3. Hey Jeremy...always a pleasure to learn of a fellow Bruce fan. James: sorry about the Sander link. I just fixed it.

  4. Great. More to read. Now I’m totally gonna lose my job for sure. I’m gonna sue CO yet!

Seriously thank, it all looks cool. Guess what? An NYU vegan dinner falls on birthday next month! Others on the way, I’ll let you know…

  9. And that’s what keeps us comin’ back for more…

Should be an NYU buffet before then, I’ll check on it…

  10. Hi Everyone....Thanks Mickey for the link to my latest on PressAction. From the feedback that I am getting, it looks like I struck a nerve and am annoying the ruling class again with this one.

The Dixie Chicks have a new release titled “Not Ready to Make Nice”. I like that title. That’s how I feel every morning when I wake up.

News is reporting the largest air strike since ‘03. The Iraqi kids are dying right now as we sit at our keyboards.

  13. PS: Jeremy, Guns, Germs, and Steel is a phenomenal book. I’m slowly working through Collapse now, and not as impressed. I find the tone far too apologetic to mainstream sensibilities. Still reading, tho.

  14. Keir, I recently saw a program on PBS about GUNS, GERMS, AND STEEL.

  16. Hello everyone. Is that a video link, RMJ?

The latest air assault in Iraq is a taste of what might happen when U.S. troops finally start to withdraw. No relief for the Iraqis but less Americans complaining about “our boys” dying.

  18. Ah...remember those carefree Cool Observer times when 75 comments was considered a slow day? With so many Expendables in upheaval, it’s getting awfully quiet in here. I feel like I’m in Studio 54 after the disco craze faded…

(Hey, did anyone watch the meat video: http://www.meat.org?)

  20. LOL! I was eating lunch when I clicked on the meat video yesterday, and put it off until later. Only I didn’t go back and watch it, until now. Thanks for the reminder.

What is depicted in that video is absolutely horrible. I have a hard time believing what is depicted therein is “standard”, as is asserted. I’ve never been to an enormous industrial farm, but I’ve certainly been to farms before. The farmers I’ve met are not inhumane monsters, like those in that video.

I have an amusing story about PETA, though. My wife had never been horseback riding before, so when we were in the States last summer taking a trip out west, we took a ride at Jackson Hole. Our guide told us about how every year, PETA comes to Jackson to protest the arches that they build new every year (apparently they auction off the old arches). She said the last time they came, there were 1000 protestors. Their complaint? Hundreds of elk should not needlessly die every year to satisfy the wealthy community’s insatiable appetite for antlers.

Of course, no elk are killed to collect the antlers. As everyone knows, elk shed their antlers each year. The boy scouts go out every year to gather the antlers from where they find them lying on the ground.

Of course, PETA was made aware of this fact. It didn’t stop their protests. Apparently, they believed it to be a lie, some sort of cover story. I would think they had better things to do with their time (like getting laws passed to stop things like what I just saw in that video).

  21. Thanks for the link, SK.

Jeremy: PETA’s a funny organization. They’ve done plenty to put animal rights into mainstream discussion but they often shoot themselves in the foot, re: tactics.

Hey, did anyone notice that I’ve had another book translated into Italian? That’s three so far.

All right...I’ll see you all tomorrow. Wear green.
