Batter Up
Hey, another good one… um, I guess this does qualify as off-topic, but here’s the BikeTV video of the AFCP rally at City Hall yesterday:
http://homepage.mac.com/trorb/BikeTV/iMovieTheater140.html
By the producer of the Frank the Auto-Free Kitty video, so you know it has to be good. Thanks, Mudge, last night, but as you’ll see, this was on the steps of City Hall so we were quite safe from oncoming cars. See you later, as I risk getting fired for Cool Observer surfing throughout the day. And remember, if we don’t ban cars from the Central Park loop drive, the terrorists win.
Posted by James on from Hell's Kitchen 03/27 at 06:46 AMVery good morning to MZer’s everywhere.
Mudge, about last night. Yes, everything is good when it is sauteed in EVOO but I am going to have to get myself psyched up to eat burdock. I will work on it. It really might become a necessity to start eating from the wild, if the economy continues on its path. After I moved here some of my neighbors asked if they could harvest from the wild in my yard. I think that they mostly took dandelion.Posted by RMJ on from Churchill 4 Prez Hdqts 03/27 at 09:35 AMHowdy RMJ! Oh, dandelion greens sauteed with shallots and tossed while barely limp into a bowl of chicken broth, topped with parmesan and a few croutons, and glurped down on a chilly spring day...! Of course, my preparation involves cooking three strips of bacon until crispy, then using a few tablespoons of that fat to sautee the veggies, but I understand squeamishness about dead pig flesh is very common. And yes, veggie broth is an okay substitute for chicken broth, though it lacks som complexity of flavor. Can’t be veganized because without the parmesan it tastes a little like dirty mop-water with some strings caught in it.
Whenever I feel a widge survivalistic, I go over here http://tinyurl.com/kjblt to get some soothing inspiration for how to use what’s around us.
CatLady! City Hall, for Central Park...? I used to love walking by City Hall when I lived on Maiden Lane. I also loved walking around the WTC. I love walking in NYC. I’m not so sure it’d be as much fun if one didn’t have to play dodge’em with the insane taxi drivers and terrified and enraged Jersey tourists.
MZ, all hail Flood for his principled stand. What player today would stnad up for salary caps?
Posted by Mudge on from Austin 03/27 at 10:52 AMa belated hello from me...still busy throwing people off cliffs today.
Last night I found I was more than a daikon short, need to pick up some things I don’t know about but which I’m sure will make all the flavour difference.
Ban the terrorist cars James!

Posted by JOS on from Chicago 03/27 at 01:31 PMHello Expendables from sunny, warm Astoria. I’ve only had a chance to view Cat Lady’s link (I’ll re-post it later this week) but I’ll read everything later. Be back soon…
Posted by Mickey Z. on from Astoria 03/27 at 02:47 PM“The murky connection that the federal government makes between some left-wing activist groups and terrorism was illustrated in a Justice Department presentation to a college law class this month.
An FBI counterterrorism official showed the class, at the University of Texas in Austin, 35 slides listing militia, neo-Nazi and Islamist groups. Senior Special Agent Charles Rasner said one slide, labeled “Anarchism,” was a federal analyst’s list of groups that people intent on terrorism might associate with.
The list included Food Not Bombs, which mainly serves vegetarian food to homeless people, and — with a question mark next to it — Indymedia, a collective that publishes what it calls radical journalism online. Both groups are among the numerous organizations affiliated with anarchists and anti-globalization protests, where there has been some violence.”
Militia, Neo-Nazis, Islamists and those that hand out vegetarian meals to the homeless.
The FBI...protecting us all from vegetables.
Posted by JOS on from Chicago 03/27 at 02:55 PMone more...I am sure that the Expedables have been following this, but just to make sure:
http://maxblumenthal.blogspot.com/2006/03/sensenbrenner-awakens-sleeping-giant-i.html
There was a HUGE demonstration here in Chicago when Mayor Daley inacted some anti-immigrant laws.
I sense more effectiveness from these demonstrations than others and I think it is only the beginning. Sleeping giant indeed.
Posted by JOS on from Chicago 03/27 at 03:01 PMThanks for the Curt Flood link, Mickey. You’re right; it’s not the version of MLB we were taught during our Boys of Summer upbringing.
Here’s a story that caught my eye this morning. Shows just how deep the elite’s disdain is is for the common folk—though the common folk continue to support their oppressors like mindless robots. Very disheartening.
On the lighter side… there’s this story (provided by Mrs. Hawk) regarding discovery of a Double Helix Nebula near the black hole core of the Milky Way. Puts things in proper perspective, methinks....
Posted by Hawk on from Boulder, CO, USA 03/27 at 03:04 PMJOS...thanks for the link about the government surveillance of all of us. Up here they were watching peace groups like the Quakers. Those FBI guys are really paranoid.
The Senate committee is now discussing immigration. All of the borders should be wide open. People are people....no such thing as an illegal person. Paranoia runs deep. Into a lot of hearts it did seep. Up here they have been having double check points...one at the Canadian border and then another about 100 miles into the USA. Once they stopped my daughter who was traveling with her little baby. The border guards suspected that the baby stroller was a WMD.
Posted by RMJ on from Churchill 4 Prez Hdqts 03/27 at 03:42 PMI think they may be monitoring this site after that vegan recipe day we had, RMJ.
Funny thing is, I can almost guaruntee that the FBI, CIA, NSA and Secret Service have taken a look at this site at one time or another.
If you are reading right now...have a doughnut on me.
Posted by JOS on from Chicago 03/27 at 04:58 PMGood to have you around so often again, Big Country.
Posted by Mickey Z. on from Astoria 03/27 at 05:59 PMgood to be here, Mick.
Posted by JOS on from Chicago 03/27 at 06:06 PMJOS...if they thought that a baby stroller was a WMD you can only imagine what they think about the recipes....must be a secret code for something.
Posted by RMJ on from Churchill 4 Prez Hdqts 03/27 at 06:08 PMRMJ...perhaps they also thought your grandchild looked suspicious.
Posted by JOS on from Chicago 03/27 at 06:12 PMI think breathing oxygen is the only criteria for being on a list these days, I wouldn´t sweat it too much.
Thanks to Mrs. Hawk for the doublehelix doodad story. Of the Scalia one, he did just come out of a church where one of the rituals is symbolic blooddrinking, I´d say the finger is par for course.
Posted by Owen on from Barcino 03/27 at 06:17 PMScalia gave a speech in a Swiss university, he´s not too keen on the trial-by-jury thing anymore parently http://tinyurl.com/lu755
Posted by Owen on from Gyarrcelona 03/27 at 06:26 PMJOS...you are probably right. At the time my grandbaby was 1 year old, sleeping with a smile on his face in his car seat.
Posted by RMJ on from Churchill 4 Prez Hdqts 03/27 at 06:30 PMOwen...Maybe someday the USA will have a system of justice. Now we only have a legal system that seems to be getting worse by the day. Scalia did not leave any doubt in what his global view is.
Hi Hawk ! Good to see you here today.
Posted by RMJ on from Churchill 4 Prez Hdqts 03/27 at 06:36 PMHere in Europe our fascists are a little fluffier and the difference ends there.
Posted by Owen on from Gyarrcelona 03/27 at 06:45 PMWell, if you’re gonna be a fascist, you might as well be fluffy.
I’m off to the city to train a kickboxing client. I’ll see everyone later...don’t do anything I wouldn’t do
Posted by Mickey Z. on from Astoria 03/27 at 06:54 PMjust so nobody makes a mess of the place:
[coasters][/coasters]Posted by Owen on from Gyarrcelona 03/27 at 07:18 PMGood looking out, Owen. Much appreciated. I’ll see you all tomorrow with a tax theme.

“Can’t be veganized because without the parmesan it tastes a little like dirty mop-water with some strings caught in it.”Well, I use a vegan parmesan alternative all the time when I’m making fetuccini alfredo. Can us vegans veganize most everything? Like, we chanted at the million-person strong rally for immigrants rights rally in Los Angeles Saturday, “si, se puede!” ;o)
Posted by Tim on from California 03/27 at 11:48 PMHere’s the vegan parmesan I use:
http://www.veganessentials.com/catalog/soymage-vegan-parmesan.htmPosted by Tim on from California 03/27 at 11:50 PMI concur with Tim. Soymage Vegan Parmesan is so good my born-in-Italy father will eat it.
