Let us now praise OIL (Our Iraq Liberators)

Posted by Mickey Z on 04/06 at 04:56 AM
  1. Prediction: Civilization as we know it is in danger of impending economic collapse.

    Two words: “Peak Oil”.

BTW, wasn’t the Iraq operation first called “Operation Iraqi Liberation” before they realized that meant “O.I.L.” and changed it to “OIF” (freedom replacing liberation)?

  2. Which civilization are you talking about, Jeremy?

  3. sk!  Long time, no “see.”

It was OIL before OIF, Jeremy.  I wouldn’t be surprised at all if we already peaked and are heading down.

All of that oil… processed, burned, dumped, washed down rivers, slicking oceans, killing plant and animal life, heating the Earth, causing wars and killing people.

  4. “Libby, 55, testified in 2003 that he provided reporter Judith Miller with information from a classified National Intelligence Estimate after being told by Cheney that Bush “specifically had authorized” him to “disclose certain information in the NIE.” Libby also testified that Cheney also specifically directed him to speak to other reporters about information in the classified NIE (which addresses Iraq’s purported weapons of mass destruction programs) as well as a cable authored by Plame’s husband, former ambassador Joseph Wilson.”

  5. HELP!!! I need tech support. How can 100’s of e-mail’s per hour coming from a machine someplace (not a disgruntled person) be totally blocked? I have it blocked from my computer but my ISP says that they do not have the technology to block it from a spam folder. I know that there are government agencies to which this kind of thing should be reported. I also know that there are ways to block it at my computer. What else can be done? My question is, HOW CAN IT BE TOTALLY BLOCKED AT THE ISP?

Posted by RMJ  on  from Churchill 4 Prez Hdqts 04/06  at  01:07 PM
  6. Sorry, RMJ, I don’t know.  If you ISP says they can’t (more like won’t)do it for you, you’ve got a problem.

May have to get a new email address, which sucks...never enter it into any form....use a throw away hotmail or yahoo address for that.

Posted by JOS  on  from Chicago 04/06  at  01:23 PM
  7. Thanks JOS...I never use my address on forms but I made the mistake of clicking on an e-mail where it said “to Unsubscribe”.  This is from a “group” somewhere that I never heard of and never subscribed to in the first place. I don’t understand why the ISP from where this spam is originating can’t be held responsible. Why is there not a “do not call list” for computers?

  8. I think there is Rosemarie, I’ll try and find it. But I understand it has limited efficacy.

  9. Sorry, RMJ, that might have sounded a little condescending.  lol…

I am not sure...but I think there might be a do not spam list.  Anyone out there know about that?

Posted by JOS  on  from Chicago 04/06  at  01:50 PM
  10. And a quick Google produces:

  11. Thanks JOS and Mew...Mew your link explains why there should not be a “do not spam list” of addresses. Too bad there is not a way to do the reverse and have a list of Banned Spammers. I keep having the feeling that I want to post the address of my spammer somewhere but I know that would not do any good. I still don’t understand why my ISP cannot just “throw away” the mail from that one spammer.

  12. George “Psycho” Bush:

  13. Great post, Mickey!  I must say, however, that the Vietnam memorial in DC is my favourite memorial - I wish all memorials were like that instead of soldiers clutching babies or pointing their guns at the sky or other empty gestures.

And ‘George “Psycho” Bush, JOS?  I simply have to click on that.

Lastly, ‘hi’ to Jeremy, Rosemarie and mew (where are the others?) from a cold and wet Daylesford:  a mere 63 F or so and some showers forecast for this Friday - it is 6:46 am even while I type this.

  14. JOS...Your link about Bush reminded me of something in one of my old articles about March 20,2003 and the Shock and Awe bombings.

“...Think back. For the year prior to this day of protests, the government of the United States had consistently threatened to use nuclear weapons. The Pentagon had released its Revised Nuclear Posture Review, which listed seven countries on its nuclear hit list. Millions of fellow human beings were being loudly and clearly threatened with a nuclear attack by the government of the U.S. In an effort to raise the global anxiety factor, the U.S. arrogantly publicized its terroristic plans for The Shock and Awe Campaign....”

    Hi Helga.

  15. “...as the Pentagon retires older bombs that it says will no longer be reliable or safe...”

Uh!  I’d just HATE it if the Pentagon had any unsafe bombs.  That would spoil my day.

LOL to everyone, sorry to be such an absentee at present.

  16. Hello Jeremy, SK (good to see you back), JOS, RMJ, Mew, Helga, and Chris (wecome back).

RMJ: I cant offer any tech advice but I’ve had similar events and they tend to last only a day or so. I get tons of spam and then it stops as quickly as it started.

JOS: I was reading your post about Libby and it made me think how insane this is. Some secret memo will undoubtedly come out and serve as the smoking gun to prove Bush did this or knew that. The pendulum will swing and like clockwork, a Democrat will ride in to “save the day” in 2008...and the beat goes on and on and on. I find myself unable to read much of ZNet, Counterpunch, or whatever. It’s essentially the same story over and over...with a few minor details changed to keep it timely.

  17. right...imagine Hillary coming to save the day...getting elected in 2008 with a mandate...what would the major differences be between her first four years and if Bush had another 4 years?  I would say that they would be Slim and none...and Slim would have left town by then.  You can count on permanent bases in Iraq.  You can count on a continued air war in Iraq and Afghanistan.  You can count on US foreign policy as usual.  You can count on US domestic policy as usual.  Either way...it’s all the same.  Bush will be villified...Hillary (or whomever) the hero, until 2012 or 2016...then it’s her turn.

  18. Well if you can’t read znet of counterpunch anymore, there’s still the onion, with a possible scenario for the elections:

You always thought there was sociopolitical satire in thoes George Romero movies…

  19. TV alert....Ward Churchill is scheduled to debate Horowitz on FOX tonight, Hannity & Colmes....9 PM

Posted by RMJ  on  from Churchill 4 Prez Hdqts 04/06  at  06:24 PM
  20. Ah yes, James...zombies attacking zombies. And RMJ: I’ll try to tune in for Ward. Thanks. Are things better with your spam situation?

Posted by Mickey Z.  on  from Astoria 04/06  at  07:15 PM
  21. Damn it, I’m to stingy to pay for cable, but not too stingy to pay for Manhattan rent by some miracle each month. I can’t watch them on tv, but if I leave right now, maybe I can run over to their window and watch them from outside the studio again. Assuming the undead hordes don’t get me first.

“day”... as in, of the dead?

Posted by James  on  from Hell's Kitchen 04/06  at  07:55 PM
  22. Hey what time is it? Either my clock is wrong here or you didn’t adjust the Cool Observer clock. Damn it, gotta get a steady job, losing all track of time here.

Posted by James  on  from Hell's Kitchen 04/06  at  08:14 PM
  23. Mick’s going on Chicago time…

Posted by JOS  on  from Chicago 04/06  at  08:22 PM
  24. Stilll waiting for Ward to come on...but I think I may have fixed the clock.

Posted by Mickey Z.  on  from Astoria 04/06  at  08:39 PM
  25. No, it’s still an hour behind, I can’t stand it, it’s messing with my head too much!

...didn’t feel like walking over to the studio after all, let me know how it goes.

Posted by James  on  from Hell's Kitchen 04/06  at  08:50 PM
  26. I don’t know how to fix the clock. Maybe if Nancy tunes in here, she can help?

As for Ward, the Fox guys have forgotten about Horowitz and hav spent the time attacking Ward’s statements about 9/11. Typical silliness.

I used to believe that if voices like Ward and Blum were heard on mainstream TV, it would make a huge difference. I do not believe that anymore.

Posted by Mickey Z.  on  from Astoria 04/06  at  08:54 PM
  27. What about the ‘liberal’ voice of Alan Colmes and his damn big head?

Yeah, I think I’ll save my pennies and not get cable.

Posted by James  on  from Hell's Kitchen 04/06  at  09:12 PM
  28. Colmes was careful to declare several times how he disagrees with Ward...but defends his right to speak.

    On that note: G’night, all.
