  2. Hey Big Country, what’s up? Sorry I didn’t mention you in the roll call yesterday. Same with Chris.

    I figured it’d be slow on a holiday weekend...but not this slow. That’s okay. When I get back from Texas, we’ll get going with a discussion of The Rebel, and get things hopping around here again.

  3. I always find it ironic that the Church adopted pagan festivities and dubbed them “Christian” so-called holy-days.

    Growing up, I always wondered what the Easter bunny and eggs had to do with Jesus. The answer is “nothing”, of course. That doesn’t seem to bother most Christians. I find that curious.

    Well, I’ll probably be around, but just so I don’t forget, I’ll join MZ in wishing James an early happy birthday.

  4. I just performed the decidedly non-holiday act of doing the laundry and was pleased see lots of fellow pagans there doing the same. No Easter eggs for us, huh?

    Hi JOS and Jeremy.
    Mickey, I hope that you have a great trip.  At least you will have a suitcase full of clean clothes. 
    Easter is not my favorite holiday. When I was growing up in a poor little coal mining town a long time ago, it was tradition that everybody got a new Easter outfit to wear to church. The poor kids, of course, had to wear the clothes that they already had. This set up a social structure that was very ugly between the haves and the have-nots. Not a pretty picture....enought to give a person a phobia about fancy hats with decorations on them.  Life is so much more simple if you just wear blue jeans all the time.
    HAPPY EASTER or HAPPY UNEASTER to all.

  7. Mickey, I think, not sure yet, the problem might have been at the ISP end.  Speaking of blue jeans, last night I watched the Churchill vs Horowitz debate on C-span. Ward was wearing blue jeans. He was very good. He made a few important points that are usually overlooked when the topic is “Politics in the classroom”.

  9. Hey, just stopping in quickly to say thanks for another cool post and the birthday wishes, Mickey! And JOS and Rosemary and Jeremy!

    I was working some crazy hours of proofreading shifts the past few days, and until a steadier thing comes along, have to take what I can get with that, and today I’ve been outside with friends and now here at my mom’s house. Yes, she’s Christian, but that’s not much issue, esp. as she made the stuffed peppers recipe from Vegan With a Vengeance for me! Fantastic. Mickey, I’ll fill an extra tupperware at NYU for you Tuesday. Thanks again, everybody, I’ll see you all tomorrow. And yes I look forward to reading the Rebel next month!

  11. Exposure to progressive/radical ideas can definitely make a difference. I used to be as brainwashed as the next guy. Around 1991 my neighbor started telling me all kinds of crazy stories about how the U.S. supported dictators around the world, toppled democratically elected governments that didn’t toe the capitalist line, and that we were the biggest threat to world peace. Laughable shit I thought. Then I heard something similar on KPFK in Los Angeles while working the graveyard shift one night. I started doing some reading and discovered Gary wasn’t such a crackpot after all. Now, most of my family and friends think I’m a bit cracked. But, some of them have woken up over the past few years.
    So, yeah, it can make a difference. Don’t back down. (Not that I thought you would wink
